As of today, the Slovak education system adheres to the Bologna Process and offers public and private institutions where you can get baccalaureate, master's and doctoral degrees. Slovak and English are used at all three levels of Higher Education.

In addition, Slovakia has an Erasmus program. Erasmus allows students to spend a semester or year abroad. Participation in the program doesn’t depend on your nationality, but on whether you are studying at the university that participates in the program.

Let's add that most Slovak universities don’t require confirmation of your knowledge of English. Instead, your motivation letter matters. This is your chance to really prove your knowledge of English and argue why you want to study in Slovakia. However, more competitive programs, such as medicine, may require proof of your knowledge of English.

What documents are required for admission to the University?

In general, the list of documents that you need to submit for admission may be different, depending on the chosen university and direction. In general, to enter a Slovak university, you need to submit:

• Completed application form. You can find it on the website of your chosen university.

• Pay the registration fee. This varies from 30 euros to 80 euros. After payment, you must save the receipt.

• Excellent motivation letter

• Letter of recommendation

• Your resume. Some postgraduate and doctoral programs also require an academic resume.

• Copies of previous diplomas/certificates of Education

You will need to submit these documents in the original language and, if they aren’t in English, with a notarized Slovak translation.

Who can apply for scholarships in Slovakia?

The National Scholarship Program is the most popular for international students. Managed by the Slovak government, it aims to support international students and academics. There is also an international scholarship. It is available to all international students studying any subject at any level. It covers tuition fees and awards a monthly payment for the entire duration of your training.
