Long-term visa
ED nonimmigrant visa
A non-immigrant ED visa is granted to an ordinary passport holder whose purpose of visit is to study in Thailand.
Necessary documents
- Passport or travel document valid for at least 6 months.
- A photograph of the applicant taken within the last six months.
- A letter confirming school enrollment, signed by an authorized person, along with a copy of the signer's ID card or passport.
- School registration certificate.
- Letter of approval from the relevant body of the Ministry of Education.
Internship (Curricular Internship), Attending trainings or seminars organized by the International Organization
- Passport or travel document valid for at least 6 months.
- A photograph of the applicant taken within the last six months.
- Letter confirming the internship/participation in the program from the company/international organization.
- A letter confirming the completion of an educational internship from the visa applicant's university/educational institute.
To study Buddhism (monk) or perform Buddhist ritual actions
- Passport or travel document valid for at least 6 months.
- A photograph of the applicant taken within the last six months.
- Letter of approval from the National Office of Buddhism.
- Confirmation letter from the receiving temple.
- Academic certificate of the previous level.
If a foreigner wishes to perform Buddhist ritual activities
- Passport or travel document valid for at least 6 months.
- A photograph of the applicant taken within the last six months.
- Travel booking confirmation
- Financial evidence such as bank statements, proof of income, proof of sponsorship from a third party
- Confirmation letter from the receiving temple.
Foreigners seeking to promote or participate in a religious mission with the permission of the relevant Thai authorities
- Passport or travel document valid for at least 6 months.
- A photograph of the applicant taken within the last six months.
- Letter of approval from the relevant authority in Thailand.
- Letter of confirmation from the host religious organization.
- Certificate of registration of a religious organization.
Visa validity period
A one-time visa is valid for three months.
Period of stay
Holders of this type of visa are initially granted a period of stay in the Kingdom not exceeding 90 days, unless otherwise specified by the Immigration Office.
Extension of stay
These qualified persons may obtain an additional leave to remain for one year from the date of entry into the Kingdom in accordance with the Immigration Office's extension of stay rules. Extension of the stay is at the discretion of the immigration officer. Applicants who wish to stay in the Kingdom for more than 90 days should submit their application to the Immigration Office in Bangkok, located at Government Center B, Chaengwattana Soi 7, Laksi, Bangkok 10210, Tel. 0-2141-9889 (or website at http://www.immigration.go.th ).
Student visa to Thailand
In order to apply for a Thai student visa, you must:
- Be enrolled in a Thai educational institution
- Take at least three courses (sometimes the requirement is four, so you should check with your school)
- Have at least 15 hours of classes per week
Requirements for obtaining a student visa to Thailand
When you apply for a Thai student visa, you will need several documents to support your application. Requirements for a student visa to Thailand:
- Your passport that is valid for at least six months and has at least two blank visa pages. If you are applying for a one-year visa, your passport must be valid for at least another 18 months.
- A photocopy of your passport
- A completed and signed application form for a student visa to Thailand. The questionnaire should be filled out on a computer. Forms filled out by hand are not accepted for obtaining a Thai visa
- Letter of acceptance from your school in Thailand, addressed to the Thai embassy or consulate you are applying to.
- If the school is a private institution: Agreement with the Ministry of Education
- Thai school or institution registration documents (if applicable)
- If you will be doing an internship in Thailand: a confirmation letter from the school you are attending.
- Your passport size photos with the following characteristics:
- Dimensions: 4 cm x 6 cm
- White background
- Made within the last six months
- Confirmation of sufficient funds to cover the duration of your stay. You need 20,000 Thai baht if you are traveling alone and 40,000 Thai baht if you are traveling with the whole family.
- A police clearance certificate issued by the authorities in your country, which confirms that you have no criminal history. This is necessary only if you will take the course for at least 1 year.
Payment of the Thai student visa fee.
A student visa to Thailand is valid for a maximum of 90 days for a single or multiple entry. Even if your course of study is likely to last at least one year, you will still be granted a 90-day visa. However, before the visa expires, you can apply for an extension at the Immigration Department of Thailand for a fee of 1,900 Thai baht.
The cost of a student visa to Thailand is 2,000 Thai baht (approximately 65 dollars / 60 euros). However, the fee may vary slightly depending on the local currency and the embassy/consulate you are applying to.
