Employees who work in Bolivia for a short time can apply for a temporary residence or work visa, which is valid for 30 to 180 days. For a longer stay, a temporary residence visa is required, which is valid for one to three years. After three years of living in the country, employees can apply for permanent residence.

The cost of each visa increases depending on the length of the employee's stay.

Most often, Multiple Visa is used to work in Bolivia and the possibility of multiple entry/exit.

Requirements for obtaining a work visa to Bolivia:

• Completed and signed application form
• Passport with a validity period of at least six months
• Proof of yellow fever vaccination if their workplace is at high risk
• Documents confirming employment, such as invitations from the company and other supporting documents
• Police registration issued by Interpol, as well as criminal and police certificates from the country of their last residence
• Medical certificate
• Photo for passport 
• Any other supporting documents required by the consulate.

Application process

1. After that the applicant submits the above-mentioned documents to the consulate, the entire process of obtaining the necessary visas may take another one to five months. An employee cannot start working in Bolivia until they receive the appropriate visa.
2. Some employees decide to enter the country on a temporary residence visa and subsequently change their status through a lawyer. To do this, the lawyer must work with the Immigration Department to collect the necessary documents on behalf of the employee.

Foreigners who work legally in Bolivia have access to the country's social security system. Conclusion of an employment contract with a foreign employee is possible with the permission of the Ministry of Labor. Upon obtaining a work permit, the foreign citizen pays taxes and contributions to the Social Insurance Fund of Bolivia, which provide access to the country's social security system.
