If you plan to travel to Norway for treatment for more than 90 days, you must apply for a residence permit. If you need someone to accompany you, you can also provide them with such a residence permit.

    To obtain a medical residence permit, you must meet the following requirements:

• You must pay a fee for the application;
• You must receive an offer of medical treatment from a medical institution in Norway;
• You must pay for the treatment at your own expense or at the expense of your country;
• The hospital / outpatient clinic must confirm that your treatment will not result in patients living in Norway receiving worse medical care;
• You must not be banned from entering Norway or Schengen;
• Treatment should not last more than one year;
• It is likely that you will leave Norway when your residence permit expires.

    Applications for a medical residence permit must be submitted to the embassy in your country.

    If you are already in Norway and your medical condition is acute, you can apply in Norway instead - the possibility of this should be clarified in the UDI.
