If you're tired of standing in long lines after arriving in the US, you can apply for Global Entry, a US Customs and Border Protection program that allows pre-approved, low-risk travelers to receive expedited clearance upon arrival in the United States through automated kiosks in individual airports.

In addition to US citizens and permanent residents, certain foreign nationals are also eligible for Global Entry.

How does the Global Entry system work? Passengers from which countries are eligible to participate in the Global Entry program? We tell.

How does Global Entry work?

More than 70 airports in the US and Canada, including Los Angeles International Airport, Chicago O'Hare International Airport, and JFK International Airport in New York, have automated Global Entry kiosks.

After boarding, go to the kiosk and scan your passport or U.S. Permanent Resident Card. After you put your finger on the scanner for fingerprint verification and fill out the customs declaration form, you will receive a receipt and can proceed with your luggage.

Global Entry travelers may still occasionally be required to undergo additional security screening, and admission to the program may be revoked if any terms and conditions are violated.

Who can apply for Global Entry?

Citizens and permanent residents of the United States, as well as representatives of a number of countries, are eligible to participate in Global Entry. To participate in the program, persons under the age of 18 must have the consent of their parents or legal guardians.

Global Entry participants from other countries must have a valid passport and visa and obtain updated visa information from US Customs and Border Protection. If an entrant receives a new passport or updated visa information, CBP must be notified in person at the Global Entry registration center.

 - Countries of global entry 2024:

Argentina, Bahrain, Brazil, Canada (NEXUS members only), Colombia, Germany, India, Mexico, Netherlands, Panama, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan and United Kingdom.

How do I register for the Global Entry program?

To enroll in the Global Entry program, you must first apply to US Customs and Border Protection, then undergo an interview and a background check, in which the applicant's information is checked against several databases.

To move, travel or work safely in a new country, you will need health insurance. You can apply for an extended policy on our website here.

How do I apply for the Global Entry program?

If you meet the eligibility requirements, you can apply for Global Entry:

1. Create a Trusted Traveler Programs account on the CBP website and complete an online application. It contains information about work history and place of residence for the previous five years.

2. Pay a $100 non-refundable fee. Beginning October 1, 2024, the application fee will increase to $120. The advantage is that according to the terms of use of some credit cards, the bank can return the money you spend on the application.

3. If your application is approved, you will be invited to schedule a personal interview. Waiting for an interview can last from months to a year.

4. Attend an interview where a CBP officer will ask questions, take your picture, and scan your fingerprints. In addition to your driver's license or other valid ID, bring your passport or permanent resident card. Applicants are also provided with instructions on how to use the automated kiosk.

How long does it take to get a Global Entry card decision?

The applicant is not always approved on the spot, but the CBP interviewing officer makes the final decision and can provide full approval within 15 minutes to 1 hour of the interview. In any case, the program sends both an email notification and a letter indicating the result.

The physical letter may contain the member's identification card, but it cannot be used during customs clearance.

Global Entry card expiration date

The Global Entry card is valid for 5 years. Renewal of membership requires an additional fee, in some cases renewal applicants are invited for a new interview.

When can a Global Entry card be denied?

A Global Entry traveler can be disqualified for any type of criminal conviction, as this is a risk-based system.

Applicants may not qualify if they provide false or incomplete information on the application, have pending criminal charges or any other legal/customs matters (including customs related offences), for example where they have previously paid a fine for transporting prohibited or undeclared goods at a port of entry into the United States or even abroad.

Usually 3-5% of applicants are rejected.

Individuals whose Global Entry applications have been denied have three ways to appeal: make an appointment with a supervisor at the Trusted Traveler Enrollment Center, email the CBP Trusted Traveler Ombudsman, or file a complaint through the Department of Homeland Security's Traveler Division.

Global Entry can expedite entry upon arrival in the United States of America at international ports of entry. Therefore, if you have the right to participate, we advise you to register for this program.

We will remind you! In June 2024, the US government announced a new policy to legally protect spouses of undocumented US citizens. As expected, the application process started on August 19, 2024.
