Visa to the USA in 2025: the list of persons who can obtain a US visa without a mandatory interview has been increased

Which expats can now skip the interview stage when obtaining a US visa?
According to the amendments to Section 222 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, consular officers now have the right to waive personal interviews for the following categories of applicants:
- Diplomatic and civil servants applying for visas A-1, A-2, C-3 (except for service personnel, servants or personal employees of accredited officials), G-1, G-2, G-3, G-4, NATO-1 to NATO-6 or TECRO E-1.
- Applicants for diplomatic or official visas.
- Applicants for visa extensions whose previous visa of the same category expired within the past 12 months.
Important! Consular officers reserve the right to request in-person interviews based on individual circumstances or local conditions.
What requirements must applicants meet to be eligible for an interview waiver?
In order to be eligible for an interview waiver, a foreign national must:
- Apply for a visa in their country of citizenship or residence.
- Have no previous visa refusals (except in cases of successful waivers).
- Have no potential visa restrictions.
