A new direct train will connect the Scandinavian cities of Malmö, Gothenburg and Oslo this summer
Scandinavia will become even more accessible to travelers this summer. The Swedish operator is launching a new daily route connecting Malmö, Gothenburg and Oslo, offering a convenient alternative to air travel and new opportunities for traveling in Northern Europe
This summer, traveling between Sweden and Norway will become easier and more comfortable. On June 15, a new direct train route will be launched connecting the southern city of Malmö, the west coast of Sweden and the Norwegian capital of Oslo. The train will run daily in both directions and will pass along the picturesque coast of Western Sweden, making it not only a convenient but also an atmospheric option for a summer trip.

When does the route start and how will the train run?
The new international service will start running on June 15, at the beginning of the summer tourist season. The route will be operated by the Swedish operator Snälltåget, which already has experience in launching popular intercity and international destinations in Northern Europe.
The train will run daily in both directions - from Malmö to Oslo and back. The route is convenient for both short weekend trips and longer routes through Scandinavia.
A separate advantage is that all flights departing from Malmö will have a Krogen restaurant car, where passengers can order hot meals and drinks during their trip. For many tourists, this is an important plus, especially given the seven-hour trip.
In our previous article, we told you that Ryanair is increasing the number of flights to Croatia for the summer season of 2026.
Departure times and stops along the way
The new route will allow you to plan your day clearly, both for tourists and business travelers. The northern route will depart from Malmö Central Station at 6:38 am and arrive in Oslo at 13:13. In the opposite direction, the train will depart at 14:48 and arrive in Malmö at 21:25. Travel time will be approximately 6.5 hours.
The route will run along the picturesque coast of Western Sweden with several stops. In particular, the train will stop in:
- Lund
- Helsingborg
- Halmstad
- Varberg
- Trollhättan
- Sarpsborgi
= Fredrikstadi
Although the train will not call at Gothenburg Central Station, passengers can conveniently transfer to suburban trains at Melndal or Hamlestaden stations, which provides access to Sweden's second largest city without complicated logistics.
In the previous article, we talked about the TOP-10 tourist destinations according to Time Out, which are definitely worth visiting in 2026.
Tickets, prices and connections to Malmö
The new route will become not only a convenient but also an affordable option for traveling in Scandinavia. Tickets are already on sale for dates until October 28, allowing you to plan your summer and fall trips in advance.
The starting ticket price is SEK 149 (approximately 14 euros). At this price, the trip becomes a competitive alternative to air travel, especially if you take into account the absence of costs for airport transfers and early check-in.
Another advantage of the route is convenient connections in Malmö. The city is an important transportation hub in Southern Sweden, with easy access to:
- Copenhagen
- Hamburg
- Berlin
As a result, the new route can be integrated into a larger trip to Northern Europe, for example, to combine Norway, Sweden and Denmark in one route without complicated logistics.

New tourist trains to popular destinations
Europe and Asia are actively developing rail routes as a comfortable alternative to air travel. The new Scandinavian flight is just one example of this trend.
In particular, the Gran Tenku tourist train, operated by Nankai Electric Railways, will start running in Japan on April 24, 2026. The route will run from Namba Station in Osaka to Gokurakubashi Station in Wakayama Prefecture, in the direction of the sacred Buddhist settlement of Koyasan.
The train will consist of four themed cars, each with its own design concept. Passengers who book seats in the fourth car will be offered breakfast, lunch or an afternoon snack by chef Atsushi Motokawa, depending on the time of travel. Travel time will be about 90 minutes, and flights will be operated twice a day in each direction.
