Germany is the main economic center of Europe. Many cities of the country lead the world rankings of places with the best quality of life: Munich, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Berlin. Germany has a fairly dynamic labor market and significant career prospects. All these factors attract expats from different parts of the world to the country.

The German healthcare system provides citizens and foreigners with access to qualified and high-quality medical care. Unlike many other European countries, Germany has compulsory health insurance, which is the oldest in the world. Migrants can take out public and private insurance in Germany.

State health insurance in Germany

State health insurance - gesetzliche Krankenversicherung is mandatory for most employees in the country. Health insurance in Germany is issued by the employer. The contribution will be deducted directly from the salary.

You can choose an insurance company from more than 150 approved partners, the most famous of which are AOK, Techniker Krankenkasse or DAK. You can easily switch from one insurance company to another after a year and a half. The amount of compensation may vary depending on the insurance company.

The degree of coverage is sufficient, but not complete. The policy covers visits to the family doctor, the purchase of prescription drugs (with a 10% deductible), examinations and hospital treatment. Dentistry, spectacles and sick leave are usually not covered by this policy.

Private health insurance in Germany

Civil servants, students, self-employed persons, freelancers and employees with an income of more than 64,350 euros per year who do not pay mandatory health insurance contributions are eligible for private health insurance.

In a private policy, you can choose different levels of compensation, from the simplest to the most comprehensive. You can also add the services of a dentist, an ophthalmologist, the manufacture of glasses, etc. here.

The amount of the premium depends on the level of coverage you choose, as well as on medical indications and health conditions.

Many people prefer private health insurance, because here you can choose the insurance cover according to your needs and pay proportionally lower premiums.

However, many insurance companies in Germany require a minimum period of residence in Germany, which can sometimes reach 2 years, in order to issue a policy. That is, if you have just moved to Germany, you may not be able to register at the local health insurance office immediately upon arrival.

International health insurance in Germany

International health insurance does not require a minimum length of stay. You can take out a policy before entering Germany.

Like private insurance, it offers access to a wider range of benefits and reimbursements. In addition, the policy is flexible and allows you to choose between different levels of coverage. The real advantage is that the cover is valid worldwide, meaning you are as well protected in Germany as in any other country.

During the registration of the policy, in addition to the basic list of services - assistance in emergency situations, transportation to a medical facility, outpatient and inpatient care, certain chronic diseases can be added or expanded with additional options that will make your policy a truly useful document: emergency dentistry, injuries during sports and active recreation, coverage of the purchase of medical drugs, etc.

In order to protect yourself from troubles abroad and save money on treatment, we advise you to take out medical insurance from verified agents. Issuing an insurance policy takes 3 minutes and guarantees the provision of high-quality medical services in Germany.
