The Italian tourist route in the Cinque Terre "The Way of Love" will reopen for tourists. The trail, which is super popular among travelers, was under reconstruction for 12 years, in 2012 it was damaged by a landslide, which also injured 4 foreigners.
This iconic trail is known for its breathtaking views of the Ligurian Sea and its romantic atmosphere.
When will Via dell'Amore be ready to receive tourists and how will it change after the reconstruction? We tell.
When will Via dell'Amore open?
The path of love was opened on July 26, 2024 for residents, and from August 9, 2024, it should also be open to tourists.
Tickets for Via dell'Amore can be booked on the Viadellamore website. The planned price of the ticket is 15 euros per hour of walking.
It is worth noting that up to 30 tourists can be on the route at the same time. In this way, the authorities plan to fight against the excessive load on Via dell'Amore.
The opening hours of Via dell'Amore are from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
What is Via dell'Amore known for?
Via dell'Amore is known as the world's most romantic walking route. The trail is 1 km long and connects the two villages of Riomaggiore and Manarolo, which are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The paved road runs along the coast, where travelers can enjoy stunning views of the landscape and the sea.
The trail was built during the modernization of the railway line between Genoa and La Spezia in the early 20th century. The railways needed a route between Riomaggiore and Manarola while the tunnel was being built.
The footpath was carved out of the solid rock overhanging the sea, and according to legend, it became the meeting place of lovers from the two cities. Nowadays, the "Path of Love" attracts romantics from different parts of the world.
Via dell'Amore is part of the "Blue Way"
It is worth noting that Via dell'Amore is one of the four sections of the Sentiero Azzuro, or "Blue Way", the most popular hiking trail in the Cinque Terre National Park, which connects five villages.
The Blue Way starts in Riomaggiore, then its route goes to Monterosso al Mare via Manarola, Corniglia and Vernazza.
The total length of the "Blue Path" is about 12 kilometers, it reaches a maximum height of 200 meters near the village of Vernazza.
You can walk the entire Blue Trail in about five hours, and it's divided into four different sections. Via dell'Amore is the first section of the route.
How did the Italian authorities reconstruct the route in the Cinque Terre "Path of Love"?
The ten-year large-scale renovation cost approximately 22 million euros. The restoration project fenced off the rocks above and below the trail with steel mesh and planted 8,800 plants to enhance the landscape.
A monitoring system has also been installed so that possible landslides can be warned in advance.
The opening of the Via dell'Amore trail is very important for the Cinque Terre region, as it will contribute to the development of tourism and the preservation of the local natural beauty.
