The United Kingdom has launched the “Visa Fraud Ton Bacho” campaign in Punjab, India to combat the growing problem of visa fraud and illegal migration. The initiative aims to protect Indian citizens from the physical, financial and emotional risks associated with fraudulent visa schemes.

Key Features of the Visa Fraud Ton Bacho Campaign
The Visa Fraud Ton Bacho campaign includes:
1. Dedicated WhatsApp support line
The new helpline (+91 70652 51380) is available in English and Punjabi, offering guidance on identifying common visa fraud tactics and information on legal migration routes to the UK.
2. Awareness-raising
The campaign will conduct awareness-raising events in Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Chandigarh to educate the public about common visa fraud tactics such as false promises of jobs in the UK, claims of exemption from English language tests (IELTS) and exorbitant processing fees.
3. Dealing with the consequences of fraud
Those found guilty of visa fraud can face a 10-year travel ban from the UK.
Why is the launch of Visa Fraud Ton Bacho important?
The campaign was officially launched on 27 February 2025 at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Jalandhar in the presence of LPU Chancellor and Rajya Sabha Member Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal.
Christina Scott, Deputy High Commissioner to India, stressed the importance of raising awareness of the risks of visa fraud and encouraging individuals to check information through official sources.
This initiative is part of the UK-India Mobility and Migration Partnership Agreement, which reflects a shared commitment to combating irregular migration and visa fraud.
