The unexpected Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023 caused numerous flight cancellations, as governments around the world warned their citizens not to travel to the Middle Eastern country. This decision hit Israel’s tourism industry hard. However, after reaching a historic ceasefire agreement, there are high hopes that flights to Israel will resume.

Read everything we know so far about the resumption of air travel to Israel in 2025 in this article.

Which airlines have resumed flights to Israel in 2025?

In the first three weeks of 2025 alone, more than 10 major airlines have announced the resumption of flights to Israel, adding hundreds of flights each week to Ben Gurion Airport, including:

1. Delta Airlines announces the resumption of flights to and from Israel from April 1, 2025.

2. Air India announces the resumption of flights to and from Israel from March 2, 2025.

3. Transavia announces the resumption of flights to and from Israel from January 28, 2025.

4. Air France announces the resumption of flights to and from Israel from January 25, 2025.

5. EasyJet announces the resumption of flights to and from Israel from June 1, 2025.

6. British Airways announces the resumption of flights to and from Israel from April 24, 2025.

7. ITA Airways announces resumption of flights to and from Israel from February 2025.

8. Wizz Air adds 12 more routes to Israel, including destinations such as London, Abu Dhabi, Warsaw, Budapest and Rome.

9. Lufthansa Group (including Swiss, Austrian, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and Eurowings) announces resumption of flights to Israel from February 2025.

Reminder! In addition, Israeli airlines continue to operate: El Al, Arkia and Israir.

Where will the airlines that return to Israel fly?

It is predicted that by mid-May, more than 1,200 flights per week to Tel Aviv will be operational, compared to less than 850 currently operating, including:

- On January 15, Wizz Air resumed flights to London, Budapest, Vienna, Milan, Warsaw and Athens.

- ITA will resume flights between Rome and Tel Aviv from February 1st, but with only one flight per day.

- Air France intends to resume the Paris-Tel Aviv flight on January 24th.

- Ryanair has confirmed that when it resumes operations, it will connect London, Amsterdam, Berlin, Basel, Geneva, Nice and Milan.

Flights to the US, India and other countries around the world will also resume.

Advantages of airlines returning to Israel

The return of all these airlines to Israel opens a window of opportunity to purchase tickets at more attractive prices. The reason is that companies returning to the market are trying to sell the first seats on each flight at low prices, according to pricing algorithms used in the aviation industry, with the more seats on a plane sold, the higher the fare.

Which airlines do passengers prefer?

Airlines that gained trust during the war set higher ticket prices because the availability of seats on flights is lower, as Israelis prefer them to carriers that are more likely to cancel flights to Israel when the security situation worsens.

Problems with the resumption of air services in Israel

It is worth noting that many airlines that have officially announced their return to Israel in recent weeks have publicly demanded an amendment to the Air Transport Law in order to resume their operations, which would suspend some consumer rights of passengers in the event of flight cancellations, including financial compensation.

The potential change in the law has been discussed by airlines and the Knesset’s Economic Committee over the past few months, and they managed to reach an agreement on an amendment that would reduce their costs for flight cancellations, especially during emergencies such as war or other security incidents. However, the final change in the law was not adopted by the Knesset.

Is it safe to travel to Israel in 2025?

The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCDO) lifted some of its travel warnings for Israel in December. In particular, the country’s citizens are no longer warned against “all but essential travel” to many tourist hotspots, including Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Eilat, the Dead Sea, the Galilee and Haifa. However, it is advised to refrain from travel to certain areas of Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories, including Gaza and the West Bank, as well as to areas within 500 meters of the border with Syria and Gaza.

France still advises its citizens not to travel to Israel and the Palestinian territories, except for urgent reasons.

Germany says it is still unsafe to travel to Israel and the Palestinian territories.

Spain also advises against travel to Israel.

However, many of these travel warnings have not been updated since the January ceasefire came into effect.
