From August 31, 2025, the Sultanate of Oman is opening access to its new long-term residency program for investors - the "golden visa", which offers accelerated access to a residence permit, business opportunities and the right to self-sponsorship. Read about the main conditions and benefits of the permit in this article.
What is the Omani Golden Visa?
The Golden Visa program starts on August 31, 2025 and gives investors the opportunity to obtain a 5- or 10-year residence permit, with the right to renew. The most important thing is not only their own residence, but also ensuring stability for the entire family: spouses, children under 25 years of age and dependent parents. They will be able to live, work and study in Oman without the need for local sponsorship, which makes the program especially attractive for family investors.
How much do you need to invest to obtain a residence permit based on a golden visa in Oman?
Oman offers two main investment levels:
Tier 1 – 10-year residence permit (renewable)
Investment options:
1. Invest from OMR 500,000 (~ USD 1.3 million) in an LLC, public joint-stock company or government bonds.
2. Buy real estate worth at least OMR 500,000 (~ USD 1.3 million).
3. Create at least 50 jobs for Omani citizens in the company, with no share capital requirements.
Tier 2 – 5-year residence permit (renewable)
Investment options:
1. Invest from OMR 250,000 (~ USD 650,000) in an LLC or PJSC.
2. Buy real estate worth from OMR 250,000 (~ USD 650,000).
For those wishing to retire: income of at least OMR 4,000 per month (~ USD 10,400).
Benefits of the Oman Golden Visa and opportunities for investors
- Investors and their family members (spouses, children under 25, dependent parents) receive the right to live, work, study in Oman without the need for sponsorship from an employer.
- Full control over the business, tax benefits, ownership of real estate in free zones (freehold), as well as access to high-level healthcare and education.
- Travel benefits: free crossing of GCC borders and simplified visa regimes for holders of such a residence permit.
- The ability to send commercial registrations electronically through the Invest Oman platform, which reduces bureaucratic costs and speeds up business registration.
Tax benefits in Oman for foreigners
Omani residents currently pay no personal income tax (PIT) – the rate is 0%. Starting from January 2028, a 5% income tax will be introduced for high earners earning more than OMR 42,000 per year (≈109,000 USD). For most residents, this will have no impact as it is limited to high-end incomes.
The standard corporate income tax rate is 15%, and free zone companies can benefit from 0% VAT under certain conditions. In addition, the country has no wealth, inheritance or capital gains taxes for individuals.
This simplified and transparent tax regime makes Oman extremely attractive to international entrepreneurs, fund managers and high net worth individuals looking for efficient ways to structure their assets.
Digital reforms and business support
One of the innovations was the electronic transfer of commercial registrations through the Invest Oman / Oman Business platform. This step reduces processing times, reduces costs and increases transparency for companies.
In parallel, the government is launching the “Al Majid Companies” initiative, which supports high-performing Omani firms, stimulating business expansion and creating new jobs. In addition, Oman is establishing partnerships with universities and industry organizations to increase innovation capacity, develop local talent and support the construction sector with modern technologies.
The strategic importance of Oman’s “Golden Visa” for investors
The “Golden Visa” program is in line with Oman Vision 2040, which envisages diversifying the economy and reducing dependence on oil. With lower entry barriers compared to other Gulf countries, Oman is becoming an attractive destination for investors in logistics, tourism, IT and renewable energy.
Digital improvements and transparent governance signal stability and long-term planning, which is especially valuable for those seeking secure and effective investment opportunities in the region.
Oman’s Golden Visa and related reforms create unique opportunities for global investors: long-term residency, full control over the business, attractive tax regime and transparent digital platform for doing business. Launching on August 31, 2025, Oman is a strategic choice for those seeking new horizons in the Persian Gulf.
