Vietnam Simplifies Work Permit Rules in 2025

In 2025, Vietnam passed a new decree that makes the process of hiring foreigners faster and less bureaucratic. Key changes:

- Labor market testing: the vacancy only needs to be published for 5 days and does not necessarily have to be on the state portal.

- Less bureaucracy: the application process has been shortened, an employment contract is required only in exceptional cases.

- Reduced requirements: 2 years of experience is enough for experts (1 year in priority industries).

- Exceptions: you can work up to 90 days a year without a permit; spouses of Vietnamese citizens no longer need an exemption certificate.

- Work in several provinces: the application is submitted at the place of registration of the company, but the authorities must be informed of all locations.

- Medical certificates: only accepted from countries with which Vietnam has agreements.

- Processing times: clearly set – 10 working days for new permits, 5 – for extensions.

These changes are aimed at attracting foreign specialists to strategic sectors of the economy and simplifying procedures for employers.
