The Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand is actively working to develop the tourism industry and plans to propose to the Cabinet of Ministers to extend the visa-free regime for visitors from more than 50 countries. Currently, tourists are allowed to stay in the country without a visa for 30 days, but it is planned to extend this period to 60 days. Furthermore, the Thai government is considering extending the stay to 90 days for European tourists to boost the country's tourist flow and economic development.

Prommin Lertsuridee, Chief Assistant to Prime Minister Strett Thaksin, announced these plans, emphasising the importance of developing tourism in Thailand. In addition, the Thai government plans to organise more than 3,000 cultural and sporting events, which will be an additional incentive for tourists to stay in the country for a longer time. These events will not only attract the attention of travellers, but will also help to increase interest in Thailand's tourism potential and its unique culture.

Measures to promote tourism in Thailand

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced the International Fireworks Festival in Pattaya, scheduled for 24-25 November. This unique event is designed to welcome tourists from both Thailand and around the world. Information about the festival will be available on the TAT's official Facebook page and will be broadcast there from 7pm.

The Authority also organises the Winter Festival in collaboration with various public and private partners. This event encompasses a variety of activities aimed at promoting Thailand's unique culture and is usually held in November and January.

In order to attract more tourists and boost the country's economy, the Thai government has made certain changes to its visa policy in recent months. For example, a 30-day visa-free regime was introduced for Indian tourists, and extended to 90 days for Russian tourists. In addition, visa requirements for citizens of India and Taiwan are to be cancelled by May 2024.

In addition to simplifying visa procedures, the Thai authorities are actively working to develop the country's tourism infrastructure, including expanding airline routes and optimising airport operations. In the coming months, nightlife venues in some regions will be open until four in the morning, which will help to develop tourism in these areas.

Tourist flows in Thailand

Tourism in Thailand has boomed in recent years, especially after the global pandemic. About 23.2 million foreign tourists visited the country this year, which is impressive compared to last year, when there were only 11.5 million. Thailand has exceeded its target of 10 million tourists, which the country's authorities set for last year. The previous record was set in 2019, before COVID-19, when more than 39 million tourists visited the country, according to official sources.

Most tourists who visited Thailand in 2023 came from East Asia, ASEAN and Europe. Malaysia leads the way in terms of country of origin, with India, Singapore and Korea following in the rankings. This reflects the popularity of Thailand among tourists from around the world due to its rich cultural heritage, beautiful beaches and delicious cuisine. Thailand continues to be one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world due to its welcoming atmosphere and diverse recreational opportunities.
