Turkey is a favorite travel destination for its stunning landscapes, rich culture and delicious food. Life in this country also sounds like a dream for digital nomads. Now, remote workers can make this lifestyle a reality thanks to the Türkiye Digital Nomad Visa launched in April.
Who can get a digital nomadic visa to Turkey and what is the application process? We tell.
What is the Turkish Digital Nomad Visa?
The Digital Nomad Visa is a residence permit that allows remote workers to live and work anywhere in the world as long as they have a reliable internet connection.
This lifestyle is especially common among IT specialists, designers, marketers and editors. These people can travel around the world without compromising their income and maintain their workflow seamlessly from anywhere.
Given these specifics of the work, more and more countries have begun to offer a special permit to attract new temporary residents. Turkey, which presented its visa for digital nomads on April 15, 2024, is no exception.

The best cities in Turkey for digital nomads to live in 2024
Turkey offers a wide selection of places for digital nomads, so every expat will be able to choose a place depending on personal preferences. Here you can find everything: from bustling cities full of culture and history to quiet seaside enclaves. A Turkish website for nomads, run by the country's national tourism agency, says most expats live in Dalaman, Marmaris, Antalya and Fethiye - small cities along the Turkish Riviera across the Aegean Sea from Greece and Cyprus.
Also, many foreigners stay in Istanbul, one of the largest and symbolic cities of Turkey. This city has UNESCO World Heritage sites, exciting nightlife, world-class restaurants, and unique natural scenery, including the shores of the Bosphorus. Istanbul offers a variety of work spaces for digital nomads, including shared offices, co-working spaces and coffee shops with free Wi-Fi.
Approximate cost of living in Turkey
In Turkey, taking into account the current exchange rate, the cost of living for foreigners is significantly lower than in large cities in the US or Europe. According to Global Citizen Solutions, the average monthly expenditure per person in Istanbul is about $542, excluding rent. In smaller cities like Izmir, the average cost of living drops to $435 without rent per person.
Rent is one of the most significant expenses, but its prices remain low. For example, you can expect to pay $331 per month for a modest three-bedroom apartment on the coast of the Aegean and Mediterranean seas. If you choose to live in Istanbul, this price will more than double, especially in more affluent areas.
