Cinque Terre, which means “Five Lands” in Italian, is a national park in Italy located on the coast of the Gulf of Genoa. The park includes five picturesque towns: Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare. In 1997, these unique landscapes were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, which emphasizes their cultural and natural value.

What is the Cinque Terre?

Cinque Terre is a picturesque national park on the east coast of Liguria, in the province of Spezia. This unique corner of Italy includes five medieval villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. 5 picturesque villages of the Cinque Terre

The Cinque Terre is one of Italy's most charming national parks, with five vibrant villages located along the coast. Monterosso

Monterosso al Mare is a place where the Italian writer Eugenio Montale, winner of the 1975 Nobel Prize, found inspiration. He often spent his summers here, describing Monterosso as “a harsh town on the rocks, a haven for fishermen and farmers.” 

The village has a rich history that is reflected in ancient structures such as the lookout tower, the current bell tower of the Church of St. Giovanni, and the Aurora Tower, the only remaining one of the thirteen that once protected the village. The name of the village comes from the name of the farmer Corneliu, who was a respected winemaker. In Corneliu, you can visit the Gothic Church of St. Peter, the XVIII century square and the chapel of St. Catherine. This village also has a picturesque wild beach with crystal clear waters.

2. Church of San Lorenzo (Chiesa di San Lorenzo). This 14th century church is the main religious building in Manarola. It has a beautiful facade and a great view of the village;

Riomaggiore

Nestled between two hills, Riomaggiore looks like a bright garland decorated with small colored houses that are picturesquely located on the slopes.
