The last weeks of August are the best time to start planning your autumn trip, because off-season vacations are available at the best prices. And if you are afraid of the large number of tourists in Italy and the increase in prices in Spain, we advise you to take a closer look at the resorts in the southeast of Europe.

The pearl of the Mediterranean and the pride of Montenegro is the Bay of Kotor - one of the cheapest destinations in Europe, especially in the off-season.

We will talk about the main attractions of the Bay of Kotor and the cost of vacation here.

What is the Bay of Kotor famous for?

The Boko-Kotorska Bay reaches 27 km deep into Montenegro, and the length of the coastline is 110 kilometers. It is surrounded by the high mountains of Orien and Lovchen, which are part of the southeastern chain of the European Dinaric Alps. The fantastic natural beauty of this region attracts travelers from different parts of the world. Also, the second reason why you can visit the region is the unsurpassed culture of Kotor.

Hiking along mountain trails

Connoisseurs of mountain tourism will have something to do during their vacation in the Bay of Kotor:

- A 3-hour route along the Vrmat ridge, which starts from the historic Vrmat fort and rises to 765 meters above sea level. A fantastic view of the surrounding landscapes opens up from here.

- Pestingrad is a mountain with an observation deck at an altitude of 1027 meters. From here you can see all the massifs and the ideal coastal cities. The culmination of the hike here will be a rocky peak decorated with the flag of Montenegro. However, be aware that the climb can seem quite difficult, especially for unprepared hikers.

- St. John's Fort is another must-see for outdoor enthusiasts. A 45-minute walking trail leads here. It is better to start this route after lunch, not only because the view becomes much more impressive at sunset, but also because it is not so hot here.

Fantastic cities and cultural objects

Boko-Kotorska Bay is known for numerous objects of ancient culture, because many of the oldest settlements in Europe are located here.

- The city of Kotor is one of the settlements of the historical region of Dalmatia, which is often compared to Dubrovnik. The city is divided by cobbled streets, which are not used by cars. They lead to secret courtyards and ornate churches. Kotor is very similar to its Croatian brother, but quieter and calmer.

- The Bay of Kotor is also home to the small legendary towns of Perast, Risan, Herceg Novi and Tivat with traditional Mediterranean stone houses that remember many legends.

How much will a vacation in the Bay of Kotor cost?

- Accommodation

You can stay in one of the small towns near Kotor, where room rent in the fall is about $50 for two people per day.

In the center of Kotor, the cheapest room with a view of the bay will cost $74.50 per adult.

A stay at a five-star boutique hotel costs $220 per night and includes access to an outdoor pool, health spa, cozy bar, restaurant and access to a private beach.

- Nutrition

Montenegrin cuisine is best represented by chevaps made of minced meat, lamb and milk, as well as Balkan porridge, chorba and delicious seafood. Some of the local delicacies can be purchased at the Farmer's Market.

Lunch in a restaurant costs from $10 to $35, pizza - $9, and a glass of local wine - $2.50.

- Excursions

In addition to the rich nature and culture, the Bay of Kotor attracts interesting and inexpensive entertainment, for example, go on a tour on a speedboat on the waters of the Mediterranean Sea and visit Perast, the famous church "Our Lady on the Rock" on the island and the Blue Cave. A tourist will have to pay about $55 for such a trip.

Also, those who are looking for real adventures should go on a one-day tour to Mount Durmitor, along the route you will see the Tara River, the deepest gorge in Europe and the centuries-old monastery of Ostrogo. Such a trip costs about $90.

On average, tourists spend $800-$900 on a one-week vacation in Montenegro.

What is the weather like in Montenegro in autumn?

Montenegro can rightfully be considered one of the warmest places in Europe in autumn, and Boko Kotor Bay is no exception.

The water near the coastline remains warm - about 25℃, so in this region you can swim comfortably even at the beginning of October.

The air temperature is also quite comfortable – the maximum values in September reach 26℃, in October it drops to only 22℃.

The evening is moderately cool, temperatures range from 18℃, the minimum is 11℃.

No beauty can compare with Kotor and its bay. Therefore, this summer, tourists should definitely visit this incomparable city, especially considering the rather pleasant cost of such a vacation.
