The Portuguese government announced the approval of a new initiative aimed at attracting and supporting foreign workers. The Programa Integrar in Portugal was specifically designed for individuals registered with the National Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP).

Who can participate in the Programa Integrar in Portugal and how to go through the registration process? We tell.

What is Programa Integrar?

The Portuguese Programa Integrar was created specifically for foreigners who are registered in the employment center of Portugal and:

- Are they unemployed or looking for their first job.

- They are planning to change their profession.

- Interested in professional training.

As part of the Programa Integrar, foreigners can receive a range of support services, including training, skills assessment and job search assistance.

What assistance can expats expect under Programa Integrar?

1. Individual consultation - participants receive a personal plan, which is drawn up by the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP) based on an individual consultation.

This process includes the following stages:

- Analysis of professional profile, needs and expectations.

- Determination of employment and training plans.

- Assessment of the requirements for learning Portuguese.

2. Qualification assessment

Program participants can count on independent assessment of educational and professional qualifications.

3. Development of skills

Programa Integrar is designed to help foreign workers overcome cultural and social barriers by offering training that enhances their professional skills. The ultimate goal is to prepare them for the Portuguese labor market and help them find work in key sectors.

Portugal is a great destination for expats because of its affordable cost of living, good weather and rich culture. What kind of budget you need to have to live in Portugal in 2024, read in this article.

How can an expat apply for Programa Integrar

In order to participate in the Programa Integrar, a foreigner must:

Step 1 – Register with the IEFP (National Institute of Employment and Vocational Training).

Stage 2 - Attend an initial assessment: take part in a personal interview to discuss your profile, needs and expectations.

Stage 3 – Develop an individual plan – work with the IEFP to create an individual employment and training plan.

Why is Programa Integrar important?

Currently, in Portugal, as in other European countries, there is an acute shortage of workers and an aging population. That is why the country considers the integration of immigrants into its working environment to be critically important. According to the government, foreign workers are needed to support economic growth and overcome the labor shortage in the country.

How does Programa Integrar work in Portugal?

As part of the program, the following ways are planned for the integration of foreigners:

1. Active employment measures such as job placement and vocational training.

2. Promoting cultural integration and helping migrants overcome barriers when looking for work.

3. Analysis of whether the participants have enough skills and qualifications to enter the Portuguese labor market.

Focusing on skills development and job placement, Programa Integrar will help migrants navigate the challenges of entering the new labor market while addressing Portugal's labor shortage.

The Programa Integrar is an important step towards making Portugal a more welcoming destination for foreign workers. Its main goal is to overcome the shortage of workers in the Portuguese labor market and to solve the problems of integration of foreign workers.

We will remind you! The Digital Nomad Visa in Portugal allows remote workers from non-EU countries to live and work in the country. Foreigners who have an appropriate level of income can get a permit. We have already told who can apply for a D8 visa and what requirements are placed on future employees.
