How do “Secret Routes” work in the Faroe Islands?
Everything is as simple as possible: after renting a car, just scan the QR code, after which the first stop will appear on the phone screen. Locations are opened only sequentially – the next one becomes available only after you visit the previous one.
One trip lasts from 3 to 6 hours and includes 4–6 stops. These are not popular tourist places with large crowds, but quiet and picturesque corners: ancient villages, churches, fjord panoramas and cozy cafes.
An additional bonus is short audio stories from local residents. They tell about the nature, culture and everyday life of the islands, creating a special atmosphere of travel.
The goal of the “Secret Routes” project in the Faroe Islands
The main idea of “secret routes” is to redirect tourist flows from congested locations to less known, but no less beautiful places. Thus, guests of the Faroe Islands receive a unique experience, and the country itself maintains a balance between tourism and preserving authenticity.
