A honeymoon doesn’t necessarily mean traveling to the other side of the world. Europe has islands that can easily rival the Maldives or the Seychelles—and often come out on top thanks to their convenience, diversity, and atmosphere. Here you can find everything: from a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature to glamorous resorts with wine, fine dining, and nightlife.

Some destinations focus on eco-friendliness and tranquility, others attract visitors with luxury and sunny weather, and still others with wild nature and active itineraries. That is why European islands are increasingly being chosen for romantic getaways for two.

This selection features three ideal honeymoon destinations where you can combine beautiful scenery, seclusion, and true relaxation.

In the previous article, we talked about the TOP-10 tourist destinations according to Time Out, which are definitely worth visiting in 2026.

Menorca, Spain

Menorca is perfect for a honeymoon if you value peace, nature, and comfort without crowds. It is one of Spain’s least developed islands, where you can find nearly empty beaches even during peak season.

The island is compact, so it’s easy to switch locations in just a few days without long drives. The most beautiful beaches are concentrated in the south, including Cala Macarella, Cala Mitjana, and Cala Turqueta. They’re known for their white sand and crystal-clear water, but you often have to walk through pine forests to reach them, which adds to the sense of seclusion.

For hiking, choose the Camí de Cavalls route. This is a circular trail about 185 km long that runs along the coast. You don’t have to complete the entire route: popular short sections offer panoramic views of cliffs and coves.

Menorca is also rich in history. The island has over 1,500 archaeological sites, including Bronze Age taules and naves. This is one of the highest concentrations of prehistoric sites in Europe.

Couples most often choose two areas for accommodation. Ciutadella is a good choice if you’re looking for an atmospheric old town with restaurants and evening strolls by the harbor. The Mahón area is quieter but boasts one of the largest natural harbors in the Mediterranean.

Things to consider before your trip:

1. The best time to visit is May, June, and September, when there are fewer tourists and the weather is pleasant

2. A car is almost essential if you plan to explore the various beaches

3. Popular coves may be restricted to cars in the summer, so you’ll sometimes have to use shuttles or walk

Menorca is an option for those who want more than just beautiful photos—a peaceful and well-planned vacation with a real sense of privacy.

In our previous article, we highlighted 10 off-the-beaten-path destinations as alternatives to popular resorts for summer travel in Europe.

Hvar, Croatia

Hvar is perfect for a honeymoon if you want to combine romance, beautiful architecture, and a more “lively” atmosphere with restaurants, wine, and sunsets by the sea. It’s one of the sunniest islands in Europe, with over 2,700 hours of sunshine a year, so the weather rarely disappoints.

Getting here is easy. Ferries and catamarans run from Split, and the trip takes about 1–1.5 hours. This makes Hvar convenient even for a short trip without complicated logistics.

The main attraction is the town of Hvar. Here you’ll find marble squares, narrow streets, historic palaces, and a harbor filled with yachts. In the evening, life centers around the waterfront and St. Stephen’s Square. For couples, this is a great option if you want to combine strolls, dinner, and the atmosphere of a “European resort.”

The beaches on the island are mostly pebbly or rocky, but the water is very clear. One of the most beautiful spots is Dubovica, a cove with turquoise water and a view of an old stone house near the shore. Also popular are the Pakleni Islands opposite the town of Hvar, which can be reached by water taxi in 10–20 minutes. There, you’ll find more seclusion and cleaner beaches.

The interior of the island has a completely different atmosphere. Here you’ll find lavender fields, vineyards, and small villages. During the lavender blooming season in late June and July, the island looks particularly stunning. It’s also worth setting aside time for local wine tastings, especially of the Plavac Mali variety.

Things to consider before your trip:

1. July and August are peak season with high prices and large crowds

2. Accommodation prices in the center of Hvar are among the highest in Croatia

3. For a more peaceful vacation, it’s better to choose the Stari Grad or Jelsa areas

4. Renting a boat or taking a trip to neighboring islands is one of the best experiences here

Hvar is an option for those who want not only solitude but also excitement. Here, it’s easy to combine a beach vacation with beautiful evenings, wine, and a festive atmosphere that’s especially palpable in the summer.

In our previous article, we provided a selection of 7 European beach destinations for an early getaway, where it’s already warm in May.

Corsica, France

Corsica is perfect for a honeymoon if you want to combine the sea, mountains, and a sense of complete escape from civilization. It is one of the most diverse islands in Europe in terms of landscapes. Here, in a single day, you can see rocky peaks, dense forests, and white-sand beaches.

The island is quite large, so it’s best to plan your route in advance. The most popular regions for couples are the south and west. The Bonifacio area offers some of the most spectacular views in the Mediterranean. The town is perched on the White Cliffs right above the sea and looks particularly stunning at sunset.

Among the beaches, Palombaggia and Santa Giulia are worth checking out. These are some of the best beaches in France, with fine, light sand and calm waters. At the same time, Corsica has many lesser-known spots where you can find peace and quiet even during peak season.

For active recreation, the island offers one of Europe’s most famous hiking trails—the GR20. Experienced hikers complete the entire route, but there are easier sections for day hikes. Even short routes leave a lasting impression thanks to the panoramic views and wild nature.

Corsica also stands out for its cuisine. Here, French and Italian traditions blend together. Be sure to try the local cheeses, meat delicacies, and wine. Many restaurants emphasize local ingredients, adding to the authenticity of the experience.

Things to consider before your trip:

1. Getting around is difficult without a car; public transportation is limited

2. The roads are mountainous and winding, so travel takes longer than it seems

3. The best time to visit is May, June, and September, when temperatures are comfortable and there are fewer tourists

4. Prices in the summer may be higher than in mainland France

Corsica is the choice for those who want not just a vacation, but an experience. There is more nature and less of a “resort” feel here, but every day can feel like a new adventure.
