Every summer, popular European tourist destinations face the same problem - an excessive influx of tourists. Queues, crowded beaches, and high prices are increasingly forcing travelers to look for alternatives. At the same time, even in well-known countries, there are still places that have not yet become popular, but offer an equally impressive vacation.

According to the Express, there are at least a few destinations in Europe where you can avoid the crowds and still get the most out of your summer trip: from picturesque beaches to unique nature and local atmosphere.

We have collected three such locations that are ideal for those who want to discover Europe from a different perspective - calm, authentic, and less touristy.

In the previous article, we provided a selection of the 10 cheapest European destinations for Easter in 2026.

La Gomera, Canary Islands, Spain

La Gomera is one of the least touristy islands in the Canary Islands, often overshadowed by more famous destinations like Tenerife. But this is exactly what makes it an ideal choice for those looking for a relaxing vacation without crowds.

The main advantage of the island is its nature. The Garajonay National Park is located here, which is included in the UNESCO list. This is a unique laurel forest that has been preserved since prehistoric times. Local hiking trails pass through dense misty forests, deep gorges, and viewpoints with panoramic ocean views.

Another reason to choose La Gomera is its seclusion. There are almost no large resorts, noisy parties, or mass tourism. The beaches are mostly wild and uncrowded, often with black volcanic sand, and the atmosphere is more reminiscent of “slow travel” than a classic resort vacation.

The island is also known as one of the best places in Europe for stargazing. Thanks to minimal light pollution, the night sky is particularly clear here - ideal for those who want to see the Milky Way without a telescope. This is complemented by a comfortable climate throughout the year, making La Gomera a versatile destination not only for summer.

Ksamil and Porto Palermo, Albania

The Albanian Riviera has been gaining popularity for several years in a row, but even here there are still places where you can relax without crowds. These are Xamil and Porto Palermo, two destinations that combine spectacular scenery with a more relaxed atmosphere.

Xamil is often called the “Maldives of Europe” - and this is no exaggeration. Here you will find turquoise water, small islands off the coast, and white sand beaches, which is rare for this region. At the same time, vacation prices are much lower than in popular Mediterranean countries, making the destination especially attractive for budget travelers.

If you want even more silence, you should go to Porto Palermo. This is a small bay with an almost perfect shape, which is often bypassed by tourist routes. Its main feature is the peninsula with the Ali Pasha Castle, which adds a historical atmosphere to the place and makes it visually very recognizable.

Unlike popular resorts, there is no chaotic development or large influx of tourists. This place is more about slow relaxation: swimming in clear water, walking along the coast, and minimal noise. That's why the Albanian Riviera, despite the growing interest, is still one of the best “hidden” destinations in Europe.

Alentejo, Portugal

The Algarve is overwhelmed with tourists every summer - the beaches are full, and prices for housing and services increase several times. At the same time, the Alentejo region remains a less obvious choice, although it offers similar landscapes without mass tourism.

The Alentejo coastline is tens of kilometers of open beaches, rocky cliffs, and the Atlantic Ocean without dense development. There are significantly fewer hotels and resorts here, so even in high season, you can find sparsely populated locations. At the same time, it is worth considering that the infrastructure is simpler: not all beaches are equipped, and the choice of restaurants and entertainment is limited.

The region can be conveniently combined with a trip to Lisbon. It takes about 1-2 hours by car from the capital to the coast, which allows you to plan short trips or a combined route. On the way, you can stop in Cascais or Estoril, as well as visit Azenhas do Mar, a small village on a cliff with a natural pool by the ocean.

Alentejo is more suitable for those who are not looking for a classic resort format with lots of entertainment and services. If the priority is tranquility, space, and a less touristy atmosphere, this region will be one of the best alternatives to popular destinations in Portugal.
