A vacation in a warm country helps you take a break from the cold and gloomy weather. There are destinations where it stays warm 365 days a year, so you can plan a trip there any time of year. Most of these places are located near the equator: it rarely gets cold there, and rain usually comes in the form of short, heavy downpours rather than prolonged drizzle. A selection of such locations was recently compiled by The Times.

Which 14 destinations are suitable for year-round travel, the best months to visit, and what to do there—we’ll cover all of that in this article.

Indian Ocean Islands: Maldives, Seychelles, Mauritius

The Maldives, the Seychelles, and Mauritius are located in the Indian Ocean and enjoy a warm climate year-round. The Maldives receives the least amount of rain during the winter months, as the monsoon season lasts from May through November. In the Seychelles, cool trade winds blow in July and August. Mauritius is sunniest from October through December, while heavy rains and cyclones are possible in January and February.

The Maldives

The Maldives consist of over 1,200 islands and are home to some of the world’s most luxurious resorts. The water off the coast is crystal clear, and the climate is consistently warm. Traveling during the winter months will cost more but guarantees more sunny days. The main way to relax is on the beach and sunbathing, while active travelers can enjoy snorkeling and jet-skiing.

Seychelles

The archipelago consists of 115 islands with beaches, granite mountains, and jungles. Some of the world’s best hotels are located along the coast. Bays with boulders and underwater granite formations make the Seychelles a popular spot for snorkeling: the warm, clear waters are home to colorful fish, stingrays, and turtles that come ashore to lay their eggs.

March and April are hot and humid here, so jungle hikes are more challenging during these months. In July and August, cool trade winds temper the weather.

Mauritius

This subtropical island lies east of Madagascar. From October through December, temperatures consistently reach 25 °C; from June through August, the average is 21 °C, and the evenings become cooler. The winter season is ideal for hiking in the mountains and visiting the Black River Gorges National Park, home to monkeys.

For sunbathing, snorkeling, and diving on coral reefs, it’s better to choose months other than January and February: during this time, heavy rains and even cyclones are possible.

Safaris and Beaches in Africa: Kenya, Zanzibar, Namibia

Kenya and Zanzibar are ideal for combining a safari with a beach vacation, while Namibia attracts visitors with its desert and national parks. In Kenya, the best time to visit is the dry season from July through October. In Zanzibar, it’s dry and less humid from June through October and in January–February. Namibia remains warm during the day all year round, but from May through September, nights in the desert can be very cold.

Kenya

The equator runs through Kenya, so it’s warm year-round in every region. The country is ideal for a trip with two highlights: first, a safari in the savanna, where giraffes graze and herds of 10–12 elephants roam; then, the white-sand beaches of Diani, Watamu, or Lamu for snorkeling, diving, and deep-sea fishing.

The dry season lasts from July through October, with temperatures around 30 °C. It is during this period that the Great Migration takes place in the Maasai Mara National Reserve. April and May are rainier, but prices are lower during these months, and the birdlife is particularly diverse.

Zanzibar

A semi-autonomous Tanzanian archipelago and the birthplace of Freddie Mercury, centered around the main island of Unguja. Even in the coldest month—usually July—temperatures here can reach 26 °C. The weather is mild, though not always dry and sunny.

For a trip with low humidity, choose the period from June through October or January–February. Tourists spend their time on white-sand beaches, in mangrove swamps and forests, as well as in the old quarter of Stone Town with its spice trade and Arabian flair.

Namibia

Warm weather in Namibia is limited to daytime hours. From May through September—the local winter—nighttime temperatures among the dunes of the Namib Desert drop to 6 °C or below freezing. There is almost no rain during this period, and vegetation becomes sparser, making it easy to spot lions, giraffes, and elephants in Etosha National Park.

October is a transitional month with hotter weather and lower prices. In the summer, temperatures sometimes exceed 40 °C, after which thunderstorms begin.

Vacationing in Southeast Asia: Thailand and Langkawi

Thailand and the Malaysian island of Langkawi have a tropical climate, so you won’t need warm clothing for a trip there in any season. In Thailand, the monsoon season lasts from May through October, while in Langkawi, the heaviest rains occur in September and October. Rainfall in both destinations is usually intense but short-lived, so even during the wetter months, tourists still enjoy plenty of sunny days.

The world’s happiest cities for tourists—listed in this article.

Thailand

The country is suitable for various types of vacations. Bangkok attracts visitors with its food markets and lively atmosphere, while the smaller city of Chiang Mai offers a more relaxed pace. After visiting the hot cities, it’s nice to head to the coast, for example, to the quiet town of Khao Lak, north of Phuket.

For a beach vacation in Thailand, travelers often choose the following destinations:

  • Phuket—many resorts suitable for families with children;
  • Koh Samui and Koh Phangan—islands known for their entertainment;
  • Koh Yao Noi and the Similan Islands—remote destinations with fewer tourists, accessible only by boat.

Langkawi

Langkawi Island is part of an archipelago of 99 islands. In September and October, there are often short downpours here, though the temperature remains around 27 °C. Dry weather sets in starting in late November.

On the island, visitors can relax on white-sand beaches, hike through the tropical forest to spot flying lemurs, bike past rice fields, ride one of the world’s most spectacular cable cars, visit markets, and swim under the Telaga Tujuh waterfall.

Egypt and Abu Dhabi: Where to Go to the Beach in Winter?

The coasts of Egypt and Abu Dhabi are ideal for a winter getaway with comfortable temperatures. In January, Egyptian resorts enjoy temperatures around 20 °C and blue skies, while in Abu Dhabi, temperatures rarely drop below 20 °C in winter. For hotter weather in Egypt—around 35 °C and above—it’s best to book your trip in the spring, summer, or fall. Summers in Abu Dhabi are very hot, with temperatures exceeding 40 °C.

Egypt

Sharm el-Sheikh is a popular resort with almost no rainfall. A quieter alternative is the Marassi coast on the Mediterranean Sea, with its bright blue waters and numerous hotels.
A beach vacation can be conveniently combined with sightseeing: walks through Cairo, visits to the Pyramids of Giza, and the Grand Egyptian Museum, where the Tutankhamun galleries opened in late 2025. Stargazing over the desert at night is a unique experience.

Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is just as sunny as Dubai and has better beaches. Saadiyat Island is surrounded by a long, sandy beach and features a club with an infinity pool and paid day passes. The Corniche and Hudayriat Island offer free recreational areas, though there are also paid sections.

Cultural attractions include a branch of the Louvre and the white-marble Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Tourists can also take a dhow trip in search of pearls and visit the Mangroves Marine National Park, home to herons.

Warm Destinations in the Americas: Rio de Janeiro, Aruba, Mexico

Rio de Janeiro, the island of Aruba in the Caribbean Sea, and Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula enjoy warm weather year-round. Rio has about 2,200 hours of sunshine per year. Aruba has some of the lowest rainfall rates among the region’s more than 700 islands. In the Yucatan, the coolest period—from November through February—coincides with the peak of the tourist season.

Rio de Janeiro

The city, known as “Cidade Maravilhosa” (The Marvelous City), combines beaches, hillsides covered in tropical vegetation, samba, caipirinhas, and the Christ the Redeemer statue. Tourists stroll through the bougainvillea-lined streets of the Santa Teresa neighborhood, swim at Copacabana Beach, and in the evening visit reasonably priced steakhouse restaurants and beach bars serving rum cocktails.

The coolest and driest period lasts from June through August: after dark, temperatures can drop to 19 °C. In November, the average temperature is 24 °C, and the weather is dry and hot.

The best islands in Indonesia — are featured in this article.

Aruba

The island is located near South America, outside the hurricane zone, although hurricanes can approach from June through November. The best month for snorkeling and diving near the white-sand beaches is June: trade winds temper the heat and humidity, and prices drop significantly.

In January and February, Aruba hosts a carnival that lasts nearly two months. The dry days from March through May are ideal for hiking through the valleys where aloe vera grows.

Yucatan, Mexico

From November through February, the average temperature drops to 21 °C, and the water remains calm. These conditions are ideal for diving, deep-sea fishing, kayaking through wetlands with dolphins, and hiking to the stepped Mayan temples.

March and April are warmer, but there are many tourists during this time due to spring break. From June through October, it’s very warm—you can spot whale sharks—but hurricanes are possible. May is a good time for a more affordable vacation at all-inclusive hotels in Cancun or on Holbox Island.

The Canary Islands: Where in Europe Is It Warm in Winter?

The Canary Islands are the best choice in Europe for winter sun. The archipelago is an autonomous community of Spain and is located off the southern coast of Morocco. The climate here is mild year-round: in January, the average temperature is 17 °C, and rain showers are usually brief. The warmest part of each island is the southeastern coast, as the trade winds and clouds are blocked by the mountains in the northwest.

Resorts with sandy beaches are concentrated in the southeast. Further inland, tourists will find sand dunes and mountain villages on Gran Canaria, “Malvasia” vineyards on Lanzarote, and the Teide volcano on Tenerife, which you can climb to the summit.
