Chefchaouen – the blue pearl of Morocco

Chefchaouen is a true landmark of Morocco. While impressing its visitors with picturesque mountain landscapes and the extraordinary colours of the houses, the town seems to merge with the sky. After all, the streets of Shahshawan are miraculously almost entirely painted in dark and light blue, as well as azure. Founded in the 15th century, the city owes this palette to the Jews who fled Spain during the persecution of the Jews. After all, according to their belief, blue serves as a reminder of God. Also in Chefchaouen, you can indulge in Moroccan flair at the numerous natural markets, local cuisine restaurants and traditional hammams. 

The golden sands of the Sahara

Part of Morocco is occupied by the world's second-largest desert, the Sahara. Most of its landscapes are rocky. And for sandy landscapes, tourists head to the east of the country. There, the undulating dune ridges reach far beyond the horizon, turning orange, yellow or red depending on the time of day. The most popular is Erg-Chebbi (erg is the Arabic name for dunes). The road to it from the nearest town of Ouarzazate leads through oases, gorges and ancient kasbahs (Arab fortresses). And native Berber tribes will introduce tourists to a taste of desert life.

The Majorelle Garden – a paradise corner of Morocco

The Majorelle, a scenic garden with exotic plants, has now been in Marrakech for almost a century. The park was created by the French artist Majorelle, in whose honour it was named. In the middle of the tropical oasis was a blue villa in a cubist style designed by another French architect. The garden is home to birds endemic to South Africa and contains a huge collection of cacti. Lovers of cultural tourism will be interested in the museums located within the park complex: Marrakech Museum of Islamic Art, the Berber Museum and the Yves Saint Laurent Museum. The latter bought the garden in the 1980s with another famous fashion designer.

The ancient fortress of Agadir

The Kasbah in Agadir is the remains of a medieval Moroccan fortress that has survived to the present day since 1540. The jagged walls of the former citadel rise on the slopes of the mountains in the northern part of the city of Agadir. From there, a magnificent view of the Atlantic coast and the city blocks opens up. An inscription in Arabic and Dutch on the gate of the fortress reads: "Fear God and honour the King". In the evening, the kasbah provides visitors with a fabulous view thanks to its colourful lighting.

Tourist visa to Morocco

Foreigners travelling to Morocco need a tourist visa. The visa application form can be found on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Emigrants. It is issued for up to 90 days, for a single or double visit to the country (this leads to the existence of two separate types of visa). The Kingdom has recently started issuing visas online for almost fifty countries. The electronic form is valid for up to 30 days but can be extended to six months for frequent visits to Morocco. We advise you to contact a specialist to clarify the legal details of visa issuance.

Documents required to obtain a tourist visa:

• original and copy of passport;

• two colour photographs (size 3x4 cm);

• completed form;

• bank statement;

• medical insurance;

• booked return ticket;

• recommendation from a travel agency or the Ministry of Tourism;

• hotel room reservation or any other proof of accommodation.
