Most visitors arriving in the Dominican Republic, including those from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Mexico, many South American countries, Central America, Japan, Israel, etc., do not require a visa to enter the country. All foreign nationals entering the Dominican Republic for tourism purposes only must have a valid passport when entering and leaving the country.
What is a tourist map and how to get a tourist map of the Dominican Republic?
- A tourist card (tarjeta del tourista) is an entry fee charged by the Dominican Republic to those visiting the country solely for tourist purposes. It can be obtained online on the site or directly at the airport upon arrival in the Dominican Republic and paid in US dollars;
- The tourist card is valid for a stay in the country up to 30 days, the tourist card can be extended 2 times.
- If you have two children, for example, you must pay for a tourist card for each of them. In addition, you can use it only once, for a single entry.
According to Dominican law, there is also a $20 departure tax, the cost of which must also be included in the airfare.
Electronic ticket
All travelers must fill out an electronic form 72 hours before departure through the e-ticket portal. After filling out the form, you will receive an e-ticket in the form of a QR code required to enter the country. We recommend that you print the e-ticket or save it on your phone for easy presentation to customs officers at the Dominican Republic airport. Note: if you need to change the form, go to the e-ticket portal, select the option to view the issued e-ticket, enter the form program code and make the necessary changes.

If you are visiting the Dominican Republic, your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of arrival.
Insurance policy recommended for traveling to the Dominican Republic
The insurance contract must contain the following information:
- Information about the insurance company;
- Information about the insured person (full name and date of birth);
- Territory and term of the insurance contract;
- Amount of insurance coverage (minimum coverage for the Dominican Republic is 30,000 euros)
It is recommended to increase the insurance coverage of the policy, as there are many opportunities for active sports in the Dominican Republic.
Types of tourist visas:
- A simple tourist visa (TS) allows single or multiple entry.
- Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (TM) allows multiple entries and a duration of up to 90 days over 180 days.

To obtain a tourist visa to the Dominican Republic, you need to follow a few simple steps:
Step 1: Gather all the necessary documents
Step 2: Fill out the online application form
Step 3: Schedule a visa appointment
So you have all the necessary documents, you have printed and signed the online application form. The next step is to make a visa appointment. You must book a visa appointment at the nearest Dominican Republic embassy or consulate.
Step 4: Attend a visa appointment
After sending your visa reservation email, you will receive a confirmation of the date and time of your reservation. After making your visa appointment, you must apply for a visa to the Dominican Republic. Here you will also need to pay the visa application fee.
Step 5: Wait for your visa to be processed
Processing time will be 10-15 business days
Step 6: Get an approved Dominican Republic tourist visa
A residence permit is required to stay in the Dominican Republic for more than 90 days. Temporary residence permit for foreigners entering the Dominican Republic for the purpose of temporary residence in the country. This permit is valid for one (1) year.
What additional documents are required to enter the Dominican Republic?
1) Visa application form filled in in print or clearly printed.
2) One 2 x 2 inch photo with a white background.
3) The original passport valid for at least the period of validity of the requested visa or longer.
4) In the case of minors, a parental or guardian's authorization if the applicant is not a parent. This document must be notarized, translated into Spanish, and both the original and the translation must be apostilled. In addition, after apostillization of the original document, it can be sent for translation to the consular section
5) Documents confirming the applicant's financial solvency (bank letter, letter of employment, property title). If the document was issued in the Dominican Republic, it must be notarized and legalized by the Attorney General's Office (Procuradoría General de la República).
6) A legible photocopy of the national identity document of the country of citizenship and a legible photocopy of the residence card if you live in another country.
7) A legible photocopy of the hotel reservation.
8) A legible photocopy of the booked flight.
9) A legible photocopy of your previous Dominican visa or residence card (if you are renewing or have previously traveled to the Dominican Republic).
10) A certificate of no criminal record issued by the relevant authorities of the country in which the person resides at the time of application. This document must be notarized, translated into Spanish, and both the original and the translation must be apostilled. In addition, after apostillization of the original document, it can be sent for translation to the consular department
11) A letter of application for a visa from the beneficiary addressed to the Consular Section, indicating the name, citizenship, place of residence and occupation, as well as the purpose of the trip to the Dominican Republic
12) Foreigners who intend to settle and temporarily reside in the country may apply for a temporary residence permit at the Department of Immigration/Assessment Office.

Car rental is possible for people over the age of 25, you must have an international driver's license valid for 90 days and a credit card. Car rental costs are approximately USD 60 per day for a mid-range car, with insurance.
Due to the peculiarities of traffic on local roads, we do not recommend renting a car.
Bus transport (Metro Bus or Carib Tours) is acceptable, air-conditioned and comfortable. For Santo Domingo, Santiago, and Puerto Plata cities, however, it is best to rely on the vast network of taxis, including UBER. You can get a taxi by calling a 24-hr dispatch taxi company. Most offer a fixed rate of approximately US$5 one-way for most in-city destinations.
