Citizens of countries that do not require a visa for entry and stay - the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda - can stay in Burundi for up to 90 days. Please note that although a visa is not required, you must have:

• Original passport or travel document with a remaining validity of at least 6 months on the date of travel and at least 2 visa pages without any markings.
  
• Confirmation of the availability of a sufficient amount of money for the stay and departure from Burundi

• An insurance policy is recommended.

Citizens of other countries of the world need to obtain a visa upon arrival at the airport or border crossing. They can stay in Burundi for up to 30 days.

Requirements for issuing a tourist visa:

• Travel document

Valid travel document (valid for at least six months prior to expiration): passport or other travel document.

• Completed visa application form (example for US citizens)

One visa application form per applicant, legibly completed and signed.

• Trip confirmation

Confirmed or unconfirmed round-trip ticket or letter from travel agency.

• Passport photos

Two recent color passport size photographs.

• Yellow fever vaccine

A copy of the yellow fever vaccination certificate.

• For official business

Letter from government/company.

• For visitors

Invitation letter from family members or friends.

• For tourists

Confirmation of hotel room(s) reservation.

• An insurance policy is recommended

Starting December 7, 2021, travelers can obtain a 30-day visa on arrival at Bujumbura Airport by paying $90 for multiple entry and $70 for single entry. Those wishing to stay in the country for more than 30 days must apply for a visa at the Burundian embassy.
