Conditions for obtaining a permit:

What documents are required to obtain a residence permit for 5 years?

• Letter of recommendation from the Department of Residence and Borders;
• Copy of the applicant's passport/travel document + stamp of the last entry into the Kingdom of Jordan;
• A certificate from the bank with the amount of twenty thousand JOD, if the applicant doesn’t have a registration document for a residential apartment in his name, or a bank certificate with the amount of ten thousand JOD + a registration document of a residential apartment in the name of the applicant.

Who can get a residence permit for 5 years?

1. Foreign residents who wish to reside in Jordan for five years, in accordance with the law on residency and Foreigners' Affairs, and who legally reside in the country for ten years.
2. Wives of Jordanian husbands, regardless of the length of previous residence in the country.

Procedure for obtaining a permit of the residence for 5 years:

• The administrator will check your documents.
• Then the application is sent to the residency department for study and preparation of a letter of opinion from the interested authorities.
• After receiving responses from interested parties, a letter is prepared, which is addressed to the relevant bank for reserving or confirming the deposit in case of holding a position (residency without a profession).
• After confirming the reservation, a letter is prepared for approval of the permit of the residence for five years.
• The applicant is then given the service's approval to complete the procedures at the Department of residence and borders or at the Department of Residence and Borders for expatriates at police stations.

Who can get Jordanian citizenship?

1. Any Arab who has continuously resided in Jordan for at least 15 years may obtain Jordanian citizenship if he renounces his citizenship by territorial origin and the law of his country allows him to do so, provided that:

• He has a good characterization and has never been convicted of offenses related to his honor or morals;
• He has a legitimate livelihood;
• He is morally and mentally healthy and doesn’t suffer from any diseases that would make him a burden to society;
• He takes the oath of allegiance to Jordan before a Justice of the peace.

2. Any person who isn’t legally incapable may apply to the Council of ministers for a certificate of naturalization of Jordan if:

• She was a permanent resident of Jordan for four years prior to the date of application;
• She intends to live in Jordan in the future.

A foreign woman who marries a Jordanian citizen can apply for Jordanian citizenship:

• after three years of marriage, if she is Arab;
• after five years of marriage, if she isn’t Arab.

A Jordanian woman who marries a non-Jordanian citizen and obtains her husband's citizenship can retain her Jordanian citizenship if she doesn’t renounce it. 

A foreign spouse who is married to a Jordanian citizen doesn’t obtain Jordanian citizenship on the grounds that he is married to a Jordanian citizen.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Jordan has approved changes to the requirements for citizenship and residence for foreign investors. In September 2021, the Jordanian government simplified the terms of the citizenship program to attract more investors and businessmen.

The Jordanian government plans to provide investors with up to 500 passports annually.

Obtaining a residence permit for the purchase of real estate

An investor can get a residence permit in Jordan if they buy one or more properties in the country for a total amount of 200,000 Jordanian dinars or from 282,000 $. The cost of objects under the agreement must be confirmed by the assessment of the Jordan Department of land and research. A residence permit is issued for five years, during which the investor remains the owner of the property. The property cannot be sold, demolished, or mortgaged.

Investment options include:

• opening an interest-free deposit with the Central Bank of Jordan;
• purchase of government bonds. The percentage of bonds is set by the Central Bank;
• purchase of shares or stocks of local companies if the shares are sealed by the company control service or the Jordanian Securities Commission;
• develop your own business project and create new jobs. Hiring employees, the investor is given four months after the start of the project. At the same time, the investor receives a temporary passport for three years. If the project is successful in three years and jobs are retained, the investor will receive Jordanian citizenship.

You must live in Jordan for at least a month before applying for citizenship. After receiving a passport, the investor can leave the country.

The investment amount depends on the selected option. The minimum amount is 750,000 $ which applies to business projects operating in any region of Jordan, except for the capital Amman.

The term of ownership of the investment is three years for all options, except for the purchase of government bonds. You need to own securities for at least six years.

Participation of the investor's family members. 

The investor's wife and financially dependent parents can get citizenship together with the investor. The investor's children can also obtain a Jordanian passport if they:

• under 18 years of age;
• unmarried, widowed or divorced;
• financially dependent on the investor.

How long does it take to process an application for citizenship?

The deadline for processing an application for obtaining citizenship for investment is 90 days.

The term for obtaining citizenship for investment is no more than three months from the date of submitting an application to the Migration Service of Jordan.

Citizenship can be revoked if an investor violates the terms of the program, for example, closes a bank deposit or repays government bonds ahead of schedule.
