If you don’t need a visa to enter and your country of residence is not part of the Schengen area, then the total period of stay in the country should not exceed 90 days within 180 days. This applies to those cases when you are traveling as a tourist, visiting family or friends, attending business meetings, cultural or sporting events.
A longer stay is possible, but you must apply for a visa or residence permit (see below).

Any citizen of a Schengen country can enter Hungary without a visa, simply using a national card, for any purpose of visit and for an unlimited period of stay.

All tourists from outside the Schengen area must have biometric passports issued less than 10 years before the date of entry into the country (check the "date of issue") and valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave (check the "expiration date"), as well as issue an insurance policy for the entire period of stay in the country.
A travel insurance policy must meet the following requirements:
- minimum coverage of 30,000 euros
- valid in all countries of the Schengen Agreement.
Additionally, you may be asked to provide documents regarding the purpose and conditions of your planned stay (for example, plane tickets for the next flight or to return to the country of origin, booking accommodation, invitation if the purpose of your trip is a private or business visit, invitation to a conference, exhibition or other events, confirmation of enrollment to participate in courses, trainings or language courses, etc.), as well as confirmation of the availability of sufficient funds to finance the planned stay (the estimated amount is about 1000
HUF per person).
If minor children are traveling, the person who is accompanied them may be asked to provide an additional application from people with custody rights over the child (usually parents) for their consent to the child's departure abroad.

If you don’t have a biometric passport or if you are a citizen of a country that does not have visa-free entry to Hungary, you need a Type C Schengen visa for a short-term visit (up to 90 days within 180 days), if the purpose of the visit is related to tourism, medical treatment, business meetings, sports events.
To obtain a short-term Schengen visa, you can apply for a visa no earlier than six months before your planned entry into the Schengen area.
Pay attention! The European Union will not issue Schengen visas to citizens who received Russian passports in the "DNR", "LNR", Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, as well as in Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

What documents do I need to submit to get a visa?
- Visa application form
- 2 photos
- The passport and copies of previous visas. Valid for at least 3 months after the refund date. Your passport must have at least two blank pages.
- A copy of your return ticket booking.
- Travel visa insurance for a minimum of 30,000 euros within Hungary and the entire Schengen area
- Cover letter indicating the purpose of your visit to Hungary and the route
- Booking air tickets with flight dates and numbers indicating entry and exit from Hungary
- The hotel reservations (for the entire duration of your planned stay in Hungary)
- A document which are confirmed the civil status (marriage certificate, birth certificate of children, death certificate of spouses or one of them)
- Livelihood: proof of sufficient financial resources for the duration of your stay in Hungary.
- If it works:
- Employment contract
- Current bank statement for the last 6 months
- Certificate of absence of objections from the employer
- Income tax return form (ITR) or income tax withholding certificate at the source of wages.
- A copy of the business license
- Bank Statement of the company for the last 6 months
- Income tax return (ITR)
- Proof of crediting
- Approval letter from a school or university
- Pension certificate for the last 6 months
The application must be supplemented with the rest of the above-mentioned mandatory documents and delivered in person at the relevant embassy/consulate or its representative in your country.

How Much Does a Schengen Visa Cost?
• €90.00 – for adults
• €45.00 – for children between 6-12 years of age
• €35.00 – for nationals from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Belarus
• €67.50 – for nationals from Cabo Verde
Schengen Visa is free for children younger than six years of age.

To stay in Hungary for more than 90 days, you need a residence permit, which can be obtained from the Regional Department of Immigration and citizenship.

Please note that you don’t need to apply for a visa if you have a valid residence permit issued by a member state of the Schengen Agreement, or a valid category D long-stay visa (a national visa considered equivalent to a residence permit) issued by a member state of the Schengen Agreement.
To travel to Hungary with your pet, you must meet the following requirements:
- your pet must be chipped
- your dog or cat must have a valid rabies vaccination
- you must have an EU pet passport or a health certificate from your veterinarian.
