Visa on arrival
Citizens of the following 41 countries and territories can obtain a visa upon arrival at Hosea Kutako International Airport or Walvis Bay Airport for a maximum stay of 3 months. In the future, visas will be issued on arrival at the border crossings in Ariamsvlei, Noordover, Oranjemund, Trans-Kalahari, Katima Mulilo and Oshikango.
If you do not need a visa for entry (list of such countries is available at the link https://namibiaembassyusa.org/foreign-nationals/ ), the total period of stay in the country should not exceed 90 days. This applies when you are traveling as a tourist, visiting family or friends, attending business meetings, cultural or sporting events. Overstaying or having an incorrect or missing entry stamp can lead to detention, arrest and a fine.
All other nationals who need a visa to enter Namibia must obtain it at the nearest Namibian embassy or consulate before travel. The list of documents required to obtain a visa is available on the official website of the Embassy https://namibiaembassyusa.org/application-for-visa/

Cats and dogs that meet the following requirements are not subject to quarantine in Namibia. All requirements also apply to service animals and emotional support animals.
- Namibia does not require your pet to be microchipped, but it is recommended that you chip the pet and register a contact number prior to travel to identify the pet in case it is lost or separated from you. If your pet does not have a registered microchip, make sure your pets are tagged with their identification and owner's contact information.
- If your pet is not currently vaccinated against rabies, it must be vaccinated between 3 and 12 months before entering Namibia. If your cat or dog is currently vaccinated against rabies and needs to be revaccinated, the 30-day wait does not apply.
- A rabies test is not required to enter Namibia from any country; however, other tests are necessary. All imported dogs must be tested for the following 5 diseases within 30 days prior to export: Brucella Canis, Trypanosoma Evansi, Babesia Gibsoni, Dirofilaria Immitis and Leishmania.
- After a negative result for Dirofilaria immitis, testing should be carried out at regular intervals until the time of importation.
- An import application to the Director of Animal Health is required for entry into Namibia, unless your dog or cat is transiting from the following SADC member countries: Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, South Africa, Swaziland, or Zimbabwe.
- Visitors should apply in advance for a permit to bring an animal into Namibia. An agent can facilitate the application process.
- Upon receipt of the completed import application form, a veterinary import permit will be issued and sent directly to you. The permit is valid for 6 months from the date of issue.
- You will then submit your application along with a NZ$50 money order. We recommend that you submit your application no later than 30 days before your travel date, as they may not be quick to respond.
- A licensed veterinarian must complete the Namibian International Veterinary Certificate. The certificate must state that the animal is healthy, free of parasites, and has up-to-date vaccinations. It must be certified by the USDA or CFIA if you are traveling from the US or Canada.
- If your pet is coming to Namibia from another country, the body responsible for the import and export of animals must certify the forms for you. The certificate must be received within 7 days prior to importation.
- Treatment for ticks and tapeworms before entering Namibia is not required but is recommended due to the availability of these drugs in the country.
- Pets can enter Namibia through Hosea Kutako International Airport. Pets may arrive in the aircraft cabin as checked baggage or air cargo.
- Upon arrival in Namibia, you will present your documents and a veterinary officer at the port of entry will stamp them.
- All domestic dogs and cats must be free of signs of human-transmissible disease when inspected at the airport of entry. If your dog or cat is clearly unwell, further examination by a licensed veterinarian may be required at your expense.
- When your pet is traveling to a foreign country such as Namibia, it is always recommended that you carry an ID that proves ownership of the pet.
- Puppies and kittens under the age of 3 months can enter Namibia without a rabies vaccination, provided they have documentation proving that the mother was vaccinated against rabies between 30 days and one year before giving birth.
- Namibia does not publish a list of prohibited breeds.
- Birds, invertebrates, tropical fish, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals such as rodents and rabbits are not required to be vaccinated against rabies, but may meet other requirements and must have a health certificate to enter Namibia. Pet owners are strongly advised to contact the relevant authorities in their country and/or country of destination for further information.
- Unless your pet is a dog, cat, or ferret, and especially if it is a turtle or parrot, you should make sure that it is not protected by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). In this case, you will have to apply for additional permissions. More than 180 countries participate in and enforce the CITES Convention.
