According to Reuters, more than 35,000 law enforcement officers are set to be deployed across Spain to maintain order during the eclipse, and approximately 660 official viewing sites have been designated.

Authorities are also concerned about a sharp increase in traffic. On the eve of the eclipse, Spain expects about 1.5 million additional car trips, so temporary restrictions are being imposed in the busiest areas, and tourists are advised not to travel to popular locations unless necessary.

What restrictions will be in place in Mallorca?

Most restrictions are scheduled for August 12, when the island is expected to see the highest influx of people heading to eclipse-viewing sites. Mallorca’s authorities warn that approximately 20 roads leading to natural areas, beaches, lighthouses, and popular viewing spots may be subject to traffic control or closures. Most restrictions will be in effect from approximately 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., but they may be implemented earlier if roads or parking lots become overcrowded.

Particularly strict controls are planned in the Serra de Tramuntana region. The restrictions will affect sections of the Ma-10 highway, access roads to Valldemossa, Deià, Sóller, Fornalutx, and Escorca, as well as the Ma-2210 road toward Cap de Formentor. Access to certain scenic overlooks and natural areas may be completely closed once the maximum capacity is reached.

Specific rules will also apply in Palma. At Playa de Palma, traffic along the waterfront is scheduled to be restricted starting at 9:00 a.m., and around noon, controls will be extended to all major road access points to the area. Public transportation will be reinforced: a special bus line, the 00-Eclipse, will run between Plaça d’Espanya and s’Arenal approximately every five minutes.

Exceptions to the transportation restrictions are provided for local residents, workers, guests of registered accommodations, and people with a valid reason for entry. Tourists are advised to avoid unnecessary car trips and, if possible, to watch the eclipse near their hotel or other place of accommodation.
