Permission to stay when buying property in Congo
A foreigner who has married a Congo citizen is eligible for citizenship after five years of co-living in the country.
The Embassy of the Congo Brazzaville requires the applicant to apply for a visa directly, as an in-person appointment may be necessary.
In the Republic of the Congo, a residence permit is not issued. Its counterpart is residence visas for 1 year, 3 years, and 5 years.
If it is necessary to extend the period of their stay in the country, the owners of ordinary foreign passports provide the migration service with a passport, an application form (in triplicate), three photos, an employment agreement (for persons who arrived at work), a certificate from the place of study (for students), a marriage certificate (for foreigners who are married to citizens of the Republic of the Congo).
Fees for applying for a visa for:
1 year - 150 USD;
3 years - 270 USD;
5 years - 350 USD.
A 5-year visa is considered privileged and is issued to foreigners or stateless persons residing in the Congo continuously for at least 10 years, whose age at the time of entry into the Republic of the Congo did not exceed 35 years. If a foreigner or stateless person is married to a Congo citizen, the age limit may be increased by 5 years. If underage children enter the country with a foreigner, the age limit may be increased by three years for each child.
Congolese citizenship can be obtained if the following condition is met: The person has been living in the country for at least 10 years.
Buying a property is not a basis for granting a residence permit in Congo.
