! Information about the tourist card (Forma Migratoria Multiple (FMM)) at Cancun airport
If you arrive and depart from the following airports:
- Cancun International Airport (CUN)
- Cosumel International Airport (CZM)
- Los Cabos International Airport (SJD)
- Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR)
- Mexico City International Airport (MEX)
You no longer need to fill out the Forma Migratoria Multiple (FMM), also known as a tourist card.
There are some exceptions:
- If you are flying to/from ANY OTHER airport in Mexico not listed above, you may have to fill out an immigration form "manually" when you arrive or depart from another airport in Mexico.
- If you are coming from a country that requires a visa to enter, you will still need to fill out this form. Please note that for the airports listed above, you will need to fill out the form "manually" upon arrival.
- If you are NOT a "visitor", for example, a permanent resident of Mexico, you still need to follow the usual arrival procedures as before.
! If necessary, there are several Forma Migratoria Multiple forms available at all arrival terminals. Immigration officers will advise you if you need to fill out a form.
Thanks to these new procedures, it is now very quick and easy to clear immigration and customs upon arrival at Cancun airport.
WARNING: If you have already filled out the Forma Migratoria Multiple (FMM) online, don't worry, the form will be automatically uploaded by the system.
It is important that it is in the Multiple Immigration Form (FMM) that you will be able to stay in Mexico as a tourist for the number of days. The immigration form must not be lost. If you lose it, you will not be able to leave Mexico until you get a new FMM.
What do you need to have to submit an FMM?
To apply for a Mexican FMM, applicants must have a valid passport (or passport card if they plan to enter Mexico through the land border), a current email address, and a payment method (credit or debit card).
Insurance
The need to have an insurance policy depends on the nature of your trip and your individual needs.
Travel insurance is not currently required for the whole of Mexico. However, travel insurance with medical coverage is required for visitors to Puerto Vallarta and the Riviera Nayarit. If you are traveling to Mexico for outdoor activities, you should include the sports you plan to practice during your stay in Mexico. This insurance is designed to protect travelers from any unforeseen medical events, including COVID-19 infection.
The minimum coverage amount is 50,000 USD.
Requirements for the validity of a passport
- The Mexican government only requires that your passport be valid for the duration of your trip. Please check with the airlines you will be flying with to make sure they will allow you to board the plane, as the United States has a six-month passport expiration rule that may apply.
- All foreigners, regardless of their nationality, are required to present a valid and unexpired passport or travel document when entering Mexico (by air, land or sea).
Fees for entering Mexico
Mexico charges a fee to all tourists and business visitors arriving in the country. The fee is approximately USD 25.

The electronic authorization system, or e-visa, is a mechanism used for citizens of Ukraine, Turkey and Russian Federation to travel to Mexico by air for tourism purposes.
! Brazilian citizens
- Starting from August 18, 2022, Brazilian nationals wishing to travel to Mexico by air will no longer be eligible to apply for an e-Visa to enter Mexico for tourism or business purposes, but will be required to obtain a consular visitor visa.
- Some Brazilian nationals may still be exempt from the visa regime if they have an appropriate visa or immigration status in another country, including permanent residence or a valid visa to Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, or any Schengen country, among other exemptions.
There is no need to obtain a visa at the Mexican Embassy, as this method of travel allows you to travel without a visa for the purposes of tourism, transit through Mexico, business (e.g. meetings, visits, training or consultations in Mexico), religious activities, technical activities, work for a company in Mexico), charitable activities, sports, transportation of goods, medical care, attending fairs and/or conferences, as well as research that does not involve a period exceeding 180 days.
