Visa
Citizens of 98 countries can enter Tunisia without a visa. They are also allowed to stay in the country for up to 90 days, after which they must obtain a visa to stay in the country. The exceptions are German citizens (up to 4 months), Bulgarian citizens (2 months) and Greek citizens (1 month).
On this page you can view whether you need a visa to enter – https://www.aeroportdetunis.com/visa_on_arrival_tunisia.php
If you have visa-free entry, you will also need to:
- Have an international passport. The passport must be valid for at least six months from the end date of the tour. If the passport is valid for 3 to 6 months from the end date of the tour, the final decision on the possibility of entering the country remains with the Tunisian border guard service;
- Demonstrate that you have enough money to cover the cost of your stay;
- Provide confirmation of your return ticket to leave the country;
- Confirm your hotel or other accommodation reservation;
- Apply for an insurance policy for the entire duration of your stay in the country, which must cover expenses in the amount of at least 30,000 euros.
If you need a visa, the requirements and procedure are described below.
The requirements for obtaining a visa at Tunisian embassies are different from country to country and depend on the time period for which you are applying. The tourist visa is short-term.
Minimum requirements include:
- Completed Tunisian visa application form;
- Valid passport (minimum 6 months left);
- The latest photo with the size of the passport;
- Booking accommodation or invitation letter (If you are staying with the owner);
- Visa fee.
Sometimes it is also necessary to provide proof of the return flight (or further travel), verification of the criminal past, evidence of sufficient funds to cover the cost of the trip, and other supporting documentation.
The form can be downloaded on the website of the Tunisian Foreign Ministry - https://www.tunisianembassy.org/visa-services
In addition, an online visa program is available. The e-visa will simplify the process of obtaining a travel authorization to enter the country. Filling out an online visa application for Tunisia will only take a few minutes, and there will be no need for citizens who need a visa to enter to visit an embassy or consulate. The online form requires applicants to enter basic information such as name, date of birth, passport number, and credit card to pay the visa fee. Once the Tunisia online visa application is submitted and approved, the e-Visa will be sent to the traveler via email. All further details about the program can be found at https://tunisia-e-visa.com/
Your driver's license is valid in the region for one year. However, foreign drivers must obtain an international driver's license, even if their license is valid. Moreover, most car rental companies require this permit before renting a car.
Such territories should be avoided because of terrorist actions:
- Within 30 km from southeastern Tunisia along the border with Libya.
- Mountainous areas in the west of the country, including the Chambi Mountain National Park area.
- Jenduba south of Ain Drachem and west of RN15, El Kef and Kasserin, near the border with Algeria.
- Gafsa and Sidi Bou Zid in the center of Tunisia.
There are restrictions on the import of certain goods to Tunisia.
Visitors can transport such products with them if they meet the established restrictions:
- Tobacco products: 200 cigarettes, 100 cigarillos, 50 cigars, 500 grams of tobacco for twisting;
- Alcoholic beverages: 2 liters up to 25% alcohol content; 1 liter above 25% alcohol content;
- Travelers arriving in Tunisia must declare a foreign currency equivalent to 5,000 Tunisian dinars (TND).
