Official/diplomatic visa
There are two main types of work visas in the DRC:
- A special work visa (VETS) is a short-term work permit intended to work for up to 12 months, although for a work permit of more than 180 days, foreign nationals must be on the Congolese payroll (see VET below). According to VETS, foreign nationals enter the country on a regular visa and then apply for a short-term work permit in the country.
* For a short-term business visit, an employee can obtain a tourist visa.
A work visa (VET) provides a long-term work permit and is suitable for work for more than 180 days. This visa is valid for 12-24 months and serves as a residence permit. Foreign citizens must be registered in the Congolese payroll. An Entry/Exit Visa (Visa Sortie/Retour - or VSR) is issued in tandem with a VETS or VET, as the case may be, allowing visa holders to travel internationally for the duration of their work visa.
The best option for a work visa will depend on the nature and duration of the work.
Requirements for obtaining a work visa of the Democratic Republic of the Congo

- Four official passport photos
- International map of vaccinations
- Confirmation of professional qualifications, for example, diplomas awarding a scientific degree or certificates of completion of training

Other important notes
Promoters or agents may be eligible for a special establishment visa for five to 10 years if the investment code has approved the company.
If you plan to work in the DRC for a long time, you may want to consider getting a residence permit. A residence permit will allow its holder to enter and leave the country freely. To obtain a residence permit, an employee must have lived in the DRC for 15 years.
A business visa is issued for various reasons, for example, to carry out a feasibility study, to establish professional and business contacts, as well as to make investments in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Official/diplomatic visas are issued to holders of diplomatic passports, holders of official passports or holders of UN passes who intend to visit the Democratic Republic of the Congo on official business.
