Ukrainian citizens do not need a visa to enter Georgia.
Resolution of the Government of Georgia No. 81 of February 24, 2023 amended Resolution No. 255 of June 5, 2015, according to which the period of visa-free stay in the country for Ukrainian citizens was increased to two years.
What documents do I need to enter Georgia?
To enter Georgia, you need a biometric or regular foreign passport (issued within the previous 10 years and valid for at least three months after the date of departure from the country) or an internal passport in the form of an ID card.
In addition, we recommend that you have travel/health insurance (Foreigners crossing the border of Georgia under the visa-free regime are not required to have a travel/health insurance policy, but it is advisable to have such a policy in case you need to seek medical treatment in Georgia).
Documents for children:
- Children must have their own passport, which is issued at any age, or children must be registered in the parents' passport.
- A child's birth certificate is required to confirm family ties.
- If the child is traveling without parents (with third parties, uncles, aunts, grandparents, siblings), they must have a notarized permit from one of the parents / guardians. If there is at least one parent, no consent is required (unless the other parent has been banned from traveling).
For the import of pets you need a veterinary passport with the mark of the veterinary service, which confirms that the animal is healthy.
When transporting no more than 5 pieces of luggage with pets and / or hand luggage of passengers who are not intended for economic activities, the animal (pet) must meet the following requirements:
- Must be healthy (e.g.,, a veterinary passport with the mark of the veterinary service, which confirms that the animal is healthy);
- Preventive vaccination, diagnostic testing and appropriate treatment must have been carried out;
- Passport for dogs and cats must contain the following basic information: data about the animal (information for its identification); data on the owner of the animal; residence address; data on the conducted veterinary measures concerning the animal (with reference to dates): on vaccination against rabies; treatment against eco- and endoparasites.
Note: Pets must be accompanied by the owner or the individual responsible for them and are not intended for sale or transfer to another owner.
When crossing the border, a foreign citizen submits:
- Valid travel document / driver's license, vehicle registration certificate.
- Georgia recognizes Ukrainian driver's licenses. If a traveler's license is revoked on the way to Georgia, the latter will not be allowed into the country if there is no other driver nearby;
- Passport or ID-card - in cases specified by law;
- Visa, if required;
- A document confirming that the vehicle is in legal ownership (if this fact is not confirmed by the document of registration of the vehicle);
- When traveling in transit - you must provide an exit visa valid for departure from the country - if necessary.
If the car is someone else's, and the traveler travels without the owner, the traveler must be registered in the car insurance policy and have a notarized power of attorney from the owner to drive a vehicle and cross the border.
If a tourist has been driving in Georgia for less than three months, you only need to have a valid national driver's license.
Regarding foreign or international driver's licenses, it is possible to drive a car in Georgia for up to one year with valid foreign or international licenses.
You do not need to apply for a Georgian license if the tourist does not become a resident of Georgia. If a tourist decides to become a resident, they must meet the requirements for citizenship and place of residence.
According to the order of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, a foreigner or a stateless individual who has a driver's license issued by a foreign state has the right to:
- Drive a vehicle until the expiration of a driver's license issued by a foreign state, but not more than 1 year after the last entry into the border of Georgia, after which the license is subject to exchange;
- Change the national driver's license to an equivalent category and / or subcategory without passing the driving test, this process should take place before the expiration of the exchange driver's license.
