Higher education in the Bahamas: documents for admission and study features

College of the Bahamas

The College of the Bahamas has about 5,000 students. Both citizens and foreigners can apply. COB has international student exchange programs between partner universities. There is a library on campus. Students can live on campus if they apply for a dorm room.


The admission committee requires an applicant's certificate and exam results. The academic year consists of two semesters. Tuition for undergraduate programs is about $15,000 per year. Those wishing to pursue a master's degree here must be prepared to spend at least US$15,000 per year. The university has many scholarship programs that students can take part in. It is among the institutions that allow students to enroll in online programs.


University of the Bahamas

The University of the Bahamas currently offers two graduate programs and approximately 55 undergraduate and associate degree programs. Undergraduate offerings range from traditional arts and sciences programs to professional programs with specializations such as nursing, teacher education, business, and pre-law, with a liberal arts core curriculum at their core. International students who have obtained a student visa must meet the direct entry requirements for the degree program they are applying for.


International applicants who have received pre-admission are eligible for admission to UB upon submission of the following documents:

  • Completed University of the Bahamas Medical Record Form;
  • Attestation grades, where applicable;
  • Proof of permission to study at the University of The Bahamas from the Bahamas Department of Immigration.
  • Students are responsible for maintaining their immigration status while enrolled at UB.

Despite the high cost of a quality higher education, the University of The Bahamas continues to offer excellent academic programs and a rich and rewarding student experience at a price that most families can afford. The average tuition fee is $7,100 per year (local taxes, cost of living, and housing not included).


The university of the West Indies (Cave Hill Campus)

The Cave Hill campus is one of the five campuses of the University of the West Indies. It offers a wide range of programs in the faculties of liberal arts and education, law, health sciences, science and technology, social sciences, and sports. The campus has a number of memorandums with international universities that offer local students the opportunity to participate in international student exchange programs and to spend a semester or academic year studying in the sun. The campus offers a range of additional study courses and allows students to attend the university on a full-time or part-time basis.

It provides first-class academic facilities, including a postgraduate facility, state-of-the-art computer and laboratory equipment, Wi-Fi access, and a main library and law library.

The campus actively encourages participation in a variety of sports, including netball, football, athletics, chess, hockey, and tennis. The campus houses a cricket ground - 3Ws Oval, a modern FIFA-certified football field, the Ryan Brathwaite sports track, and Astroturf mini sand hockey.
