Citizens of the EU and countries that are part of the Schengen area do not need a visa for treatment. Everyone else will have to choose between two types of permits depending on the duration of the therapy.

Schengen visa type C

Suitable for short-term treatment, diagnostics or examinations lasting up to 90 days within a 180-day period. The basis for registration is an invitation from a German clinic with confirmation of the medical necessity of treatment specifically in Germany and the approximate cost of the program. The application processing takes an average of 15 calendar days, although in more complex cases it can take up to 45.

National visa type D

Required if the treatment will last longer than 90 days - this applies to inpatient therapy, long-term outpatient treatment or cases where the patient is accompanied by a relative for the entire period.
