Nearby is the international airport of the same name, and from Chania it is very close to the most famous beaches of Crete - Balos Lagoon, Elafonisi Beach or Samara Gorge.

Go to Knossos Palace
Knossos Palace is one of the most visited tourist places in Crete. It is located just 10 minutes by car from the center of Heraklion.
The ruins of the palace were first discovered by archaeologists in 1878, but real excavations began here only 20 years ago. The famous archaeologist Arthur Evans devoted 35 years of his life and most of his savings to the study of this place. It was Evans who discovered a new civilization here, which he called Minoan (in honor of the legendary Cretan king Minos).

- Helpful tip: to get to Spinalong Island take a boat to Plaka or Elounda (€12). In summer, the shuttle runs every 30 minutes, the travel time is 15 minutes.
Enjoy the Richtis waterfall
Go on a fantastic hiking trip to Richtis Falls. The 90-minute route will take a shady path through the forest along a small river. The hike is accessible even to unprepared travelers, the main thing is to have comfortable shoes.
The waterfall is very beautiful, if it is not cold, you can even swim in it. From the waterfall, walk to a small beach.

- Interesting places: Richtis gorge.
- Helpful tip: to shorten the walking route, park your car closer to the waterfall. To do this, take the small road to the left of the parking lot to the bridge. There are several parking spaces here, but to occupy them, you need to arrive earlier. You can also get to the waterfall from the beach in 30 minutes on foot.
Relax at the seaside resort of Matala
Matala is a small seaside resort known for its caves carved into the rocks on the seashore. From here you can see a beautiful bay with crescent-shaped turquoise water.
The caves were formed in the Neolithic period and served as a Roman necropolis.
