An electronic visa to Thailand is a special entry permit that allows you to visit the country under a simplified system, without the need to obtain a visa at the embassy or consulate of the kingdom.

Currently, Thailand has expanded the list of countries that can use the electronic entry permit service, now it is available to representatives of 39 countries.

What is this Thailand E-Visa permit?

An e-Visa is usually available for purposes such as tourism, business, medical treatment or visiting friends and family. If you wish to visit the country for another purpose, you must apply for the appropriate visa at the embassy in your country.

The procedure for obtaining a permit is quite simple - you apply online, upload the necessary documents and pay the visa fee. You also get permission for e-mail.

Citizens of which countries can get an electronic visa to Thailand?

Citizens of the following 39 countries have the right to apply for an electronic visa to Thailand: Canada, the USA, Brazil, Chile, Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal , Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, South Africa, Cambodia, China, East Timor, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Bahrain, Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Australia and New Zealand.

How to apply for an e-Visa to Thailand?

The process of applying for an electronic visa to Thailand is as follows:

Step 1 – Register on the official Thai e-Visa website.

Visit the Thai e-Visa portal. Create an account by clicking “Register” and then select “Register as an individual”. Enter your email address, create a password and click "Create Account". To register on the website, you must enter your personal information such as first name, last name, country of citizenship, current address, etc.

Step 2 – Receive a confirmation email.

After creating an account, you will receive an email confirming the successful registration of your account.

Step 3 – Check if you are eligible for a visa.

Check if you are eligible to apply for an e-Visa to Thailand.

Step 4 – Select the purpose of the visit.

Select the type of travel document and the purpose of the visit. After that, the system will automatically select the type of visa that corresponds to the purpose of your visit.

Step 5 – Fill in your personal information.

Fill in the application data.

Step 6 – Upload supporting documents.

Attach all necessary documents to confirm your application.

Step 7 – Pay the installment.

The cost of a visa application is USD 82. If the permit is refused, the visa fee is non-refundable. For payment, you can choose an Internet banking credit card or UnionPay QR.

Step 8 – Wait for registration.

It usually takes 3 to 10 business days. However, it may take even longer. Some citizens can wait up to 3 months for approval.

Step 9 – Get permission.

Once the e-Visa application is approved, applicants will be sent a confirmation email that can be printed to present to the airlines and Thai immigration authorities when traveling to the country.

Package of documents for E-Visa registration in Thailand

To apply for an electronic visa to Thailand, you need to have the following package of documents:

1. Original passport and a copy of the page with biometric data of your passport or travel document.

2. A photograph taken within the last six months.

3. Confirmation of the right to legal residence in the country of citizenship.

4. Financial Information - You must provide proof that you have sufficient funds to support yourself. This can be in the form of bank statements, proof of income, sponsorship letter, etc.

5. Proof of accommodation - provide information about where you will be staying in Thailand. This can be in the form of accommodation reservations, invitation letters from family/friends in Thailand, etc.

6. Confirmation of travel booking.

When should I apply for an e-Visa to Thailand?

We recommend that you apply for an e-Visa to Thailand at least one month before your trip. This is because some applications may take longer than a few business days to process.

Thai e-Visa validity period

Thailand electronic visa is valid for three months from the date of visa issuance. The maximum period of stay in the country is 60 days.

If you wish to stay in Thailand longer, you can visit your local Thai immigration office and apply for an extension of the permit.

If approved, your visa will be valid for another three months and you can stay for another 60 days.

Multiple entry Thai e-Visa

Thailand eVisa is also multiple entry. When you apply for an e-Visa to Thailand, you can apply for a single entry visa or a multiple entry visa. A multiple-entry visa allows foreign nationals to enter Thailand for 6 months and stay in the country for 60 days per visit. A multiple-entry visa can be extended for another 30 days.

Visa exemption and the future ETA system

In addition to the right to an electronic visa, as of July 2024, Thailand provides visa-free benefits to citizens of 93 countries and territories. These visitors can stay in the country for up to 60 days without a visa, with the option to extend their stay for an additional 30 days while in Thailand.

Thailand also plans to introduce an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system for visa-free travelers by 2025, although a specific launch date has yet to be confirmed.
