In 2025, the United States plans to launch a new immigration program for skilled workers, the Heartland visa, to attract international talent to the least developed regions of the country. It is predicted that this visa will be revolutionary and will allow specialists from different parts of the world, including citizens of Norway, Belgium, Croatia and the Bahamas, to find work in the United States.
More about the new permit later in this article.
Heartland Visa - what is this permit?
Heartland Visa is a new program of the US immigration department, which is aimed at skilled workers, entrepreneurs and innovators who want to settle in an economically disadvantaged area of the United States - the Heartland.
It is expected that applicants who have:
- A high-paying job offer in one of the target regions.
- Relevant work experience in the chosen industry.
- Business or entrepreneurial plans that meet local economic needs.
To move, travel or work safely in a new country, you will need health insurance. You can apply for an extended policy on our website here.
When will the Heartland Visa be implemented?
The proposal to implement this type of visa was put forward by the Economic Innovation Group (EIG), a bipartisan think tank focused on economic development. Later in June 2024, the US Convention of Mayors approved the document. In particular, the Bipartisan Mayors Resolution highlighted the urgent need for skilled immigrants to fill labor gaps and boost the economy in certain regions of the United States.
The support of the US Conference of Mayors accelerates discussions on the permit at the federal level, so the Heartland Visa now awaits legislative approval.
If Congress acts quickly, the new permit could be launched as early as 2025.
Why is the implementation of the Heartland Visa important?
The Heartland Visa can definitely be distinguished from other migration initiatives, because it:
1. It has advantages for both expats and regions: qualified specialists will have access to high-paying jobs, and the target regions will solve the problem of labor shortages, which will contribute to economic development.
2. Economic development: the presence of a sufficient number of specialists will contribute to the revival of local industries, which can stop population decline.
3. Targeted approach: unlike traditional visas, the Heartland Visa focuses on specific geographical regions that are experiencing a labor shortage.
Requirements for foreigners - who will be eligible for a Heartland visa?
The Heartland visa will be aimed at:
- Qualified professionals who have offers of high-paying jobs in their respective areas.
- Entrepreneurs who aim to establish or expand businesses in regions that are in economic decline.
- Researchers and innovators with experience that meets local economic needs.
More detailed requirements are still being developed.
The new Heartland visa can be a good chance for skilled workers to obtain the right to work in the United States, which in turn will contribute to the revival of economically depressed areas of the country.
