From April 1, 2025, Malaysia has introduced a multiple-entry Investor Pass visa, which is designed to facilitate the entry and long-term stay of foreign investors and business visitors from various countries, including citizens of Pakistan, Turkmenistan and Bangladesh. What is an Investor Pass in Malaysia?


The Investor Pass is a new visa category introduced by the Malaysian government that allows foreign investors and certain citizens to stay in the country for an extended period. It is specifically designed to meet the needs of those who want to invest in Malaysia’s growing economy, but also need the opportunity to live and work in the country for an extended period. Pass holders will be exempted from all security checks when traveling to and from Malaysia.

Who can get an Investor Pass in Malaysia?


The Investor Pass is available to:

- New Investors: Individuals with no prior investment in Malaysia.

- Investors in Pipeline: Those who are negotiating an investment or awaiting approval from the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA).

- Existing Investor: Foreigners who are engaged in investment activities in Malaysia.

Requirements for Malaysian Investor Pass applicants


- Age 18 years and above.

- Hold a C-suite position or equivalent (decision-making position).

- Have a business in the country of origin or in other countries.

- Belong to a public sector, government-affiliated company or private sector.


What is the package of documents for obtaining an Investor Pass in Malaysia?


- Official invitation document: from a ministry, government agency or company registration office in Malaysia (optional, depending on the investor category).

- Copy of passport: all pages of passport, valid for at least 12 months.

- Certificate of Incorporation: from the parent company.

- Latest audited financial statements: from the parent company.

- MIDA confirmation document: if applicable.


Important! Documents not in English must be translated by the embassy of the relevant country or an authorized translation agency.


How to apply for an Investor Pass in Malaysia?


The procedure for applying for an Investor Pass in Malaysia is in 5 stages:


Step 1 – Apply for an Investor Pass through the Xpats portal

Register your account, fill in the applicant’s personal details and upload the required documents.


Step 2 – Document Verification by Investment Authorities and Special Services of Malaysia

The foreign businessman undergoes a verification of the application according to the following categories: new investor, potential investor, permanent investor. The applicant who meets the requirements will receive an accompanying decision and a notification to the registered email address.


Step 3 – Payment via MYXpats

Make a payment via MYXpats. After that, the application is considered submitted and sent for consideration. The Immigration Department aims to process applications within five working days after receiving all the required documents.

The processing fee is 500 Malaysian ringgit (about 110 USD), and the processing fee is 90 Malaysian ringgit (21 USD).


Step 4 – Verification and decision making

After passing all the verification stages, the applicant will receive a notification of approval or refusal to issue the document.


Step 5 – Payment and Endorsement

The investor will have 6 months to complete the investment procedure, if this is not done within the established period, the permit will be canceled.


Important! The investor pass is issued electronically, eliminating the need for physical stickers in passports. Holders can display the status of their pass using electronic devices.

How long can a foreigner stay in Malaysia under an Investor Pass?


An Investor Pass allows its holders to stay in Malaysia for an initial period of six months, with the possibility of extension for another six months, subject to compliance with all requirements and justification for staying in the country.


Can an investor move to Malaysia with their family?


Investor Pass holders in Malaysia are not allowed to bring dependents or apply for a pass under this program.
