In 2025, the Indian government has updated the rules for Long-Term Visa (LTV) holders from Pakistan. If you are a Pakistani national holding a long-term visa but have not yet obtained Indian citizenship, it is mandatory for you to re-apply and validate your authorization through the e-FRRO portal by 10 July 2025. Otherwise, your visa may be cancelled.

This move marks a change in India’s approach to visa policy for Pakistani nationals and introduces new requirements for transparency and documentary verification.

Who needs to re-apply for a long-term visa in India?

The following categories of Pakistani nationals are required to validate their long-term visa:

- hold a valid long-term visa (LTV),

When do Pakistani nationals need to apply and validate a long-term visa in India?

- Application period: May 10 to July 10, 2025.

Important! After July 10, 2025, the visa will be cancelled if a re-application is not submitted.

What documents are required for long-term visa confirmation?

While applying on the e-FRRO portal, you need to upload the following documents:

- Valid LTV certificate.

- Recent passport-sized photograph with white background.

- Proof of residential address in India.

- Information about profession, employment and religion.

- Copy of Indian citizenship application (if any)

How do Pakistani citizens apply for long-term visa confirmation in India?

Step 1 – Go to the official portal: https://indianfrro.gov.in.

Step 2 – Register or log in to your account.

Step 3 – Select the appropriate LTV re-application service.

Step 4 – Upload all the required documents.

Step 5 – Verify the details and submit the application.

Step 6 – Save the confirmation of submission.

What happens if you do not apply for the extension of your Indian residence permit?

If you do not fulfill the conditions and do not apply for the extension of your residence permit, Pakistani citizens in India may face the following consequences:

1. Your long-term visa will be cancelled without renewal.

2. This may lead to forced return or other legal consequences.

3. You will not be able to avail any benefits related to LTV.

Why has the Indian government brought back the process of confirming residence permit for Pakistani citizens?

This new rule is part of the updated visa policy of the Indian government. While LTV holders were previously exempted from re-application, this process has now become mandatory for all non-Indian citizens.

According to Vishnukant, Inspector General of Police, Rajasthan, the changes were introduced based on an order issued on April 28, 2025 by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
