Europe for €19: a new low-cost train between Amsterdam, Berlin and Hamburg
A new low-cost train connecting Amsterdam, Berlin, and Hamburg with tickets starting at €19 has been launched in Europe. The project is focused on affordable travel and can be an alternative to low-cost air travel. Find out more about the route, prices and travel conditions
A new player in the rail transportation market has emerged in Europe: the Dutch startup GoVolta has launched low-cost international flights between Amsterdam, Berlin, and Hamburg. The company focuses on affordability: tickets start at €19, making the train a competitor to low-cost airlines.
The format is simple: cheaper but longer travel time. This approach is already attracting the attention of travelers looking for budget options for traveling in Europe.
In our previous article, we told you that European airlines are changing their routes and choosing direct flights to Asia and Africa.

New low-cost train in Europe: what is known about the route
The new route connects several major European cities and passes through important transportation hubs in the Netherlands and Germany. This makes it convenient for both tourists and travelers between regions.
Trains run between Amsterdam, Berlin, and Hamburg three times a week, but starting July 1, the route to Berlin will become a daily service.
The route passes through several cities, including Amersfoort, Deventer, Hengelo, Osnabrück, and Hanover, which makes it possible to use it not only as an intercity connection.
The travel time is about 7 hours and 15 minutes, which is longer than high-speed trains but much more affordable.
Earlier we told you that large-scale strikes are planned at Spanish airports for Easter 2026.
How much do tickets cost and what are the conditions for passengers?
The main advantage of the new service is its affordable price. Tickets start at €19, and the average cost of a trip is about €30, making the route attractive for budget travelers.
The basic fare includes only hand luggage, while additional luggage is charged separately. This approach follows the model of low-cost airlines, where passengers pay only for the necessary options.
Trains consist of 11 cars and can carry up to 820 passengers. Passengers have access to two classes - economy and comfort - as well as a buffet with drinks and snacks, which makes traveling more comfortable even on long routes.
In our previous article, we told you that experts predict a 30% drop in tourist traffic in the Middle East.
How does GoVolta differ from high-speed trains and low-cost airlines?
GoVolta has chosen a different strategy than classic rail carriers. The company does not rely on speed - its main advantage is the low cost of tickets.
As a result, traveling takes longer than on high-speed trains, but it allows you to save a lot of money. In fact, the company is transferring the low-cost airline model to the railroad: the basic fare is minimal, and additional services are paid separately.
This format gives passengers a choice: faster but more expensive, or slower but much cheaper. And it is on this balance that GoVolta is building its competitive advantage.
What routes are planned to be launched next
GoVolta has already announced plans to expand its route network, which indicates the company's ambitious strategy in the European market.
By the end of 2026, the carrier plans to launch a new route between Amsterdam and Paris, one of the most popular tourist and business routes in Europe.
Expanding its geography could make low-cost rail travel even more affordable and increase competition with airlines on short and medium-haul routes.
