How is the Skytrax World Airport Awards ranking determined?

The Skytrax ranking is based on a large-scale survey of actual passengers. The study covered the period from August 2025 to February 2026, during which travelers from over 100 countries evaluated more than 575 airports. The evaluation took into account the entire passenger experience: speed of check-in, efficiency of security checks, passport control, cleanliness of the premises, quality of dining and shopping areas, as well as ease of navigation to boarding gates.

That is why Skytrax results are considered one of the most representative rankings in the aviation industry—they reflect the real-world experience of those who directly use airports. A position in the ranking depends on the total score across all categories, and thus, a high ranking indicates consistently high-quality service at every stage of a passenger’s stay in the terminal.

Top 10 Best Airports in the World in 2026

The top ten of the 2026 Skytrax ranking is comprised of airports from three continents—Asia, Europe, and North America. Changi Airport in Singapore once again topped the list, having held the top spot for many years in a row. Changi is noted for its fast passport control, high-quality dining options, and comfortable conditions for transit passengers. In addition to the overall first place, it also received the title of Asia’s best airport.

Incheon Airport in Seoul took second place—it is particularly noted for its family-friendliness and well-organized passenger flow. Rounding out the top three is Tokyo Haneda Airport, which received special recognition as the cleanest major airport in the world. In fourth place is Hong Kong International Airport, which has returned to the top ranks thanks to efficient security checks and reliable infrastructure. Fifth place went to Tokyo Narita Airport, which consistently demonstrates organized service and convenient navigation.

Europe is represented in the top ten by Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport (6th place), which has held the title of Europe’s best airport for the fourth consecutive year; Fiumicino Airport in Rome (7th place), with modern infrastructure and a comfortable security screening process; Istanbul Airport (8th place)—a major international hub with an extensive network of connections—and Munich Airport (9th place), where passengers particularly appreciate the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. Rounding out the top ten is Vancouver International Airport—the highest-ranked North American airport in the list, known for its calm atmosphere and clear signage.

Asia dominates the Skytrax 2026 ranking

The regional breakdown clearly demonstrates the dominance of Asian airports. Singapore, Seoul, Tokyo (two airports), and Hong Kong occupy five of the top ten spots. These hubs are distinguished by robust infrastructure, the implementation of modern technologies—including biometric identification and automated check-in—as well as a consistent focus on passenger comfort.

European airports also maintain competitive positions. Paris, Rome, Istanbul, and Munich made it into the top ten thanks to the ongoing modernization of terminals and the optimization of service processes. Vancouver represents North America at the top of the list, standing out among the continent’s airports with a balanced combination of convenience and efficiency.

What matters to passengers: key criteria for evaluating airports

Skytrax survey results show that modern travelers evaluate airports based on a whole range of factors. Among the most important are wait times during check-in, security screening, and immigration checks. The shorter the lines and the more transparent the process, the higher the airport’s rating. Cleanliness of the facilities, as well as the availability of quality restaurants, cafes, and shops, also significantly influence the overall impression.

Passengers also highlight the ease of finding their way around terminals: clear signage, logical layout, and smart technologies (self-service check-in, biometric systems) significantly reduce stress levels during travel. Airports that invest in all these areas simultaneously receive the highest ratings and consistently rise in the rankings.

When planning a trip, it’s important to ensure reliable protection at every stage of your journey. Flight delays, lost luggage, or unforeseen medical situations can happen even in the most modern terminal.
