Kyrgyzstan’s mountain trails, Sicilian salt pans, Chongqing’s neon-lit neighborhoods, and the beaches of Cape Verde—Skyscanner’s selection for 2027 brings together a wide variety of destinations. Some are perfect for a short city getaway, while others are ideal for a beach vacation or a mountain adventure. Let’s take a look at all ten destinations: what makes them interesting, why you should visit them, and what to keep in mind when planning your trip.

In our previous article, we discussed how to choose safe accommodation, avoid mistakes, and book a hotel without unnecessary expenses.

Skyscanner’s selection is based on the increase in the number of round-trip flight searches. The company analyzed search queries from January 1 to June 17, 2026, for trips taking place in 2026 and compared them to the same period in 2025. It then selected ten destinations, taking into account their suitability for tourist travel.

Bishkek showed the largest increase among the selected destinations—+501%. This is approximately six times more searches than a year earlier. Next are Hurghada with +186% and Malmö with +103%. Even Guatemala City, which rounds out the top ten, saw a 63% increase.

These percentages reflect changes in user interest. They do not indicate the same level of growth in bookings or tourist arrivals. The list was published as a guide for 2027, but its statistical basis is search data from 2026. Skyscanner does not provide the absolute number of search queries for each destination on this page.

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan

Search growth: +501%

The capital of Kyrgyzstan tops the list. Skyscanner notes Bishkek’s appearance on the BBC’s *Race Across the World* and its proximity to mountain trails. It’s a convenient starting point for exploring the country, learning about nomadic culture, and heading to the Tien Shan Mountains.

You should set aside 1–2 days for the city itself: take a stroll through Ala-Too Square, visit the National History Museum, and explore the Osh Bazaar. The market sells spices, dried fruits, traditional felt goods, and kalpaks—Kyrgyz headwear.

For a day trip, the Ala-Archa Nature Park, located about 40 km south of Bishkek, is a great option. Here, you can choose between a walk through the valley or a more challenging mountain hike.

April–June and September–October are the most comfortable months for city tours. In the summer, temperatures can exceed +35 °C, so it’s best to plan walks for the morning. If your main goal is the mountains, you should choose your travel dates based on the elevation and conditions of your specific route.

In our previous article, we provided a selection of the 14 best destinations that are warm year-round.

Hurghada, Egypt

Search growth: +186%

Hurghada took second place in the selection: interest in flights has nearly tripled.

The main attractions here are the Red Sea, coral reefs, and a vacation that can be combined with diving and boat tours.

For excursions beyond the hotel, consider the Giftun Islands with their sandy beaches and snorkeling spots. On the mainland, take a stroll through the marina, visit local markets, or go on a desert tour. Hurghada grew out of a fishing village and today offers both large beach resorts and water sports centers.

To combine beach time with sightseeing, choose April or October, when the intense summer heat has subsided. Before booking, check the specifics of the hotel’s beach: a sandy slope into the water, access from a pier, and the presence of a reef are more important than the mere label “beachfront.” Be sure to clarify whether boat tours and equipment are included in the price of your stay.

Malmö, Sweden

Search growth: +103%

In Malmö, Skyscanner highlights the culinary diversity, creative neighborhoods, and Scandinavian design. New flight routes are also making the city more accessible to travelers.

You can start your exploration at Lilla Torg Square, surrounded by historic buildings, and then head to Malmöhus Castle. The Western Harbor district offers a completely different atmosphere: waterfronts, modern architecture, and the 190-meter-tall Turning Torso. This 54-story skyscraper twists 90 degrees around its axis. At local eateries, you can try everything from falafel to modern Nordic cuisine.

Malmö is easy to combine with a visit to Copenhagen: the train ride between the cities takes about 38 minutes. So when searching for tickets, it’s worth checking flights to the Danish capital as well. You can set aside two days for Malmö itself: one to explore the old town and museums, and the other for the waterfront and culinary stops.

Trapani, Italy

Search growth: +95%

This port city in western Sicily attracts visitors with its fishing boats, historic streets, and salt pans—features highlighted by Skyscanner. Trapani is ideal for a trip that combines the sea, historic architecture, and short excursions into the surrounding countryside.

Three locations are worth including in your itinerary:

1. The Trapani and Pacheco Salt Pans—pools for evaporating seawater, windmills, and white mounds of salt. The area is part of a nature reserve.

2. Erice—a town above Trapani with narrow streets and the Norman Castle of Venus. From here, you can enjoy views of the coastline and the islands.

3. The Egadi Islands — a chance to complement your city vacation with a boat trip. Options include Favignana and Levanzo.

It’s best to set aside 3–4 days for Trapani and its surroundings, reserving a separate day for the islands. It’s best not to schedule a boat trip right before your return flight. On the local menu, look for fish couscous—a signature dish of western Sicily that shows a clear connection to North African cuisine.

Samos, Greece

Search growth – +75%

Pine-covered slopes, turquoise coves, and villages with white houses—this is how Samos is featured in Skyscanner’s selection. The company also highlights new flights that make it easier to reach the island. Here, you can complement a beach vacation with a tour of ancient sites.

Pythagoreion and the Heraion of Samos are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Among the main attractions are the ruins of the Sanctuary of Hera and the 1,036-meter-long Eupalinos Tunnel. It was carved through the mountain as early as the 6th century BCE to supply water to the city.

It’s worth setting aside a separate day for Pythagoreion and the archaeological sites, leaving the rest of your time for the coast. It’s best to plan your visit to the tunnel in advance: the site operator recommends scheduling your visit by phone beforehand. Its total length doesn’t mean the entire route will be accessible during your trip—you’ll need to confirm this before booking.

In our previous article, we wrote about the world’s best culinary tours: from Reykjavík to Cape Town.

Chongqing, China

Search growth: +70%

Neon-lit skyscrapers on mountain slopes, old streets, and restaurants with steaming pots of hogou—this is the combination that Skyscanner highlights in Chongqing. The city is worth exploring both during the day and after sunset, when the lights along the waterfront and on the buildings come on.

One of the main attractions is the 11-story Hongyadong complex, built on a hillside in a traditional architectural style. Its first floor opens onto the waterfront, and the eleventh floor opens onto the street above. Inside, there are shops and restaurants, including ones serving local hoguo—a dish where the ingredients are cooked in boiling broth right at the table.

Two more stops are Liziba Station, where the monorail passes through a residential building, and the cable car across the Yangtze River. These attractions showcase how the city’s transportation system has been adapted to its challenging terrain.

When planning walking routes, check the specific entrances and exits: points that appear close together on the map may actually be at different levels. This is especially important in Hongyadun—the exit to the upper street and the exit to the river lead to different parts of the neighborhood.

Da Nang, Vietnam

Search growth: +68%

Da Nang took seventh place in the selection. Here, you can combine a day at My Khe Beach, a trip to the Golden Bridge with its giant stone hands, and a seafood dinner—these are the experiences Skyscanner highlights.

The Golden Bridge is located in the Sun World Ba Na Hills mountain resort. You can reach it by cable car, so it’s best to set aside a separate day for the visit. Another spot worth exploring is the Marble Mountains: a group of five limestone and marble hills named after water, wood, fire, metal, and earth. There are caves, pagodas, and observation decks here.

To explore nature, the Son Tra Peninsula is a great choice, with its forested slopes and coastal views. In the city, be sure to visit the Cham Sculpture Museum, and among the local dishes, try mi quang—rice noodles with pork, shrimp, quail eggs, peanuts, and herbs.

For a beach vacation, consider June through August: according to Vietnam’s tourism board, there is little rainfall during this period, and the sea is usually clear and calm. March through May are ideal for combining beach time with sightseeing. It’s best to plan swimming and walks along the coast for the morning or closer to sunset.

Sal, Cape Verde

Search growth – +67%

Sal made the list thanks to its sandy beaches, sunny weather, and opportunities for windsurfing and other water sports. This island is ideal for those planning to spend most of their vacation by the Atlantic Ocean.

For accommodations, consider Santa Maria: it has beaches, restaurants, a market, and water sports schools. People head to Kite Beach for kitesurfing, and for snorkeling, Murdeira Bay is worth checking out among the local spots.

Two natural sites are worth a separate trip. The Pedra de Lume salt flats are located inside the crater of an extinct volcano. In Buracão, you can see the “Blue Eye”—an optical phenomenon that occurs when the sun illuminates the water inside a rock cavity. Its visibility depends on the lighting, so it’s best to check with a local guide for the best time to visit.

For kitesurfing, the best time is November through June, when the island is swept by trade winds. If your priority is a peaceful swim, choose a beach based on wind and wave conditions: conditions on the sports coast and near your hotel may differ.

In our previous article, we discussed budget-friendly destinations for a winter vacation without breaking the bank.

Kittilä, Finland

Search growth: +65%

Kittilä in Finnish Lapland took ninth place in the selection. Skyscanner highlights direct winter flights from London, snow-covered landscapes, and the chance to see the Northern Lights. This destination is ideal for a winter vacation above the Arctic Circle.

For an active vacation, consider the Levi resort in the municipality of Kittilä. Here, you can go downhill and cross-country skiing. At the height of the season, the network of groomed cross-country trails stretches approximately 230 km, 28 km of which are illuminated. The season begins in October on trails with packed snow and, under favorable conditions, lasts until April or even May. You can check the availability of specific areas on the resort’s interactive map.

The Northern Lights season runs from late August to early April, when the nights are dark enough. According to Visit Finland, the Northern Lights appear on about every other clear night in Lapland during this period. This is no guarantee of a sighting: it requires the right solar activity and a cloudless sky. To spot the aurora, choose open areas away from streetlights.

If the main purpose of your trip is to see the Northern Lights, it’s worth setting aside a few evenings for viewing. For a ski vacation, check the trail conditions for your chosen dates, and when booking accommodations, check its location relative to the lifts and trails.

We previously reported on the amount of tourist taxes in Europe in 2026.

Guatemala City, Guatemala

Search growth: +63%

Guatemala City rounds out the top ten. Skyscanner highlights its museums, colorful markets, and the opportunity to continue your journey to volcanoes, colonial cities, and Mayan heritage sites.

Start your exploration in the historic center in Zone 1: Constitution Square, the Cathedral, and the National Palace of Culture. The Central Market is a great place to pick up souvenirs. Next, you can visit two museums in Zone 10: Popol Vuh, dedicated to Mayan art and history, and Ixchel, dedicated to the traditional textiles and clothing of indigenous peoples. Both are located on the grounds of Francisco Marroquín University.

You can dedicate a separate part of your itinerary to Antigua Guatemala, the former capital with its colonial architecture. The city lies at an altitude of approximately 1,500 meters above sea level and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. After the earthquakes of 1773, the capital was moved, and the ruins of churches and monasteries remain in Antigua.

You can plan to spend 1–2 days in the capital, grouping the sights by neighborhood. The Guatemalan Tourism Board advises allowing 20–55 minutes for travel between areas due to unpredictable traffic. It recommends using licensed taxis for transportation. Keep this in mind before your return flight as well: allow plenty of time for the trip to the airport.

No matter how well thought-out your itinerary is, there is always room for force majeure when traveling.
