Rules of entry and stay

The Government of Brunei allows citizens of certain countries to travel to Brunei for tourism or business purposes for up to 14/30/90 days without the need for a visa. All visitors must have a passport valid for 6 months.

You can also apply for a visa to Brunei via the internet. Such a visa allows you to stay in the country for up to 30 days. But to get it, you need an invitation from the host country in Brunei. Registration will take from two weeks to a month. At the end, you should receive a confirmation email. The visa itself will be delivered to you at the airport when you submit the letter.

Citizens of the following 56 countries can visit Brunei without obtaining a visa.
  1. 14 days: Cambodia, Canada, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Macau, Maldives, Myanmar (Burma), Peru, Philippines, Russia, Thailand, Vietnam.
  2. 30 days: Laos, Malaysia, New Zealand, Oman, Singapore, South Korea, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates.
  3. 90 days: all citizens of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, United Kingdom, USA.

Important! Israeli citizens are not allowed to enter Brunei!

Citizens of the following 7 countries and territories can obtain a visa upon arrival at Brunei International Airport:
  1. Australia, Bahrain (can get a single-entry or multiple-entry visa valid for 30 days);
  2. Kuwait (can get a single-entry visa valid for 30 days);
  3. China, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan (can get a single-entry visa valid for 14 days).

Required documents for obtaining a Brunei visa on arrival: 
  • A passport that is valid for at least six months after the date of your return. And there are at least two free "visa pages" available;
  • Confirmation of sufficient funds for the duration of your stay in Brunei;
  • Round-trip air tickets.

Additional documents may be required. Documents must be submitted upon arrival at Brunei International Airport.

A tourist visa is issued to applicants who intend to visit Brunei for tourism and sightseeing purposes. The validity period of a tourist visa is 90 days from the date of its issuance. 

Required documents for obtaining a tourist visa: 
  • Application form, fully completed and signed.
  • A photo with the format of the passport, a recent photo of a face on a white background, with the size 3.5 x 4.5 cm.
  • Passport and a copy of the main page that is valid for at least six months after the date of your scheduled departure, with 2 blank pages.
  • A copy of the return ticket.
  • The proof of residence in Brunei. For example, a hotel reservation or the address where you will stay if you are staying with family/friends.
  • The proof that you can financially support yourself in Brunei.
  • Your contact details.
  • Payment of the visa fee.
  • If you apply by mail: a prepaid envelope with your own address for returning your documents to the consular services.
For minors:
  • A copy of the birth certificate/adoption certificate/custody order in case of divorce of the parents/death certificate of the father;
  • A letter of consent from the parent/parents or legal guardian/guardians if the minor child is traveling unaccompanied;
