Starting December 7, 2021, travelers can obtain a 30-day visa on arrival at Bujumbura Airport by paying $90 for multiple entry and $70 for single entry. Those wishing to stay in the country for more than 30 days must apply for a visa at the Burundian embassy.
If you are going to Burundi only in transit, you do not need to apply for a visa. However, you must be in an international transit zone and have all the documents to prove that you will be going to another destination.
Travelers must have the necessary documents for the next trip, as well as tickets with a confirmed reservation for the first connecting flight.
To travel with a pet to Burundi, you must meet the following requirements. Pets require a veterinary certificate issued at the point of departure and an import permit. Upon arrival, a veterinary inspection will be carried out. Make sure that the veterinary certificate states: the country of origin, the name and address of the owner, the species, the sex of the animal, that the animal is free from ticks and has not been exposed to infectious diseases.
The health certificate must state that the animal has been vaccinated against rabies within a month but less than 12 months prior to departure and which type of vaccine was used. This certificate must be issued no more than 15 days before departure.
