Medical facilities in Cape Verde are limited and some medicines are in short supply or unavailable. The largest hospitals are located in Praia and Mindelo, smaller medical facilities and clinics are located throughout the country. Medical facilities are particularly limited on the island of Boa Vista. There are no functioning airports on the islands of Brava and Santo Antao, so air evacuation in the event of a medical emergency from these two islands is extremely difficult.

    Make sure you have adequate travel medical insurance and funds available to cover the costs of any treatment abroad, as well as repatriation. 

    If you need emergency medical assistance while traveling, dial 130 and call an ambulance. Also, if you have been referred to a medical facility for treatment, you need to contact your insurance/medical company immediately.

    Before entering Cape Verde for medical purposes, you must pre-register on the EASE online platform five days before your trip.

    For a trip for medical purposes to Cape Verde for a period of no more than 90 days, the mandatory additional documents are:

• A document issued by a doctor or health care institution confirming the need for treatment.
• Confirmation of prepayment or other evidence of sufficient funds (insurance coverage) to cover medical and related expenses.
