There are two types of work permits: a temporary work permit (Authorisation d'Emploi Temporaire - AET) and a work permit. 

AET is issued for six months and, although not subject to extension, is in practice extended in the form of a new AET (also in practice extended indefinitely in the form of a new AET when an extension is requested).

After applying for an AET or work permit, the National Bureau of Employment issues a receipt that serves as a temporary work permit and allows employment for the duration of the application.

The work permit is valid for two years and can be extended indefinitely.

Application Process

Like many other countries, the Republic of the Congo requires foreign nationals to obtain a visa before arrival. Visa requirements may vary depending on the applicant's nationality, so it is best to start the application process at the nearest Congolese embassy or consulate. The diplomatic staff of the embassy will be able to provide an up-to-date list of visa requirements and fees.

After confirming the list of requirements, the applicant must collect all the necessary documents and fill out a visa application form. When all materials are ready, the applicant must submit them to the Congolese embassy or consulate in their country of residence. At the same time, applicants must also pay the visa fee.

While Congolese diplomatic staff is considering a visa application, the applicant must remain in their country of residence. Once the application is approved, the relevant officials will return the passport to the applicant by mail along with the visa. After obtaining a visa, the applicant can go to the Republic of the Congo.

A business visa is issued for various reasons, for example, for conducting a feasibility study, establishing professional and business contacts, as well as for making investments in the Republic of the Congo. A business visa is issued only for one month (30 days) and allows multiple entries for non-citizens. The validity of the visa may not exceed 30 days. If a businessman plans to stay in the Republic of the Congo for more than 30 days, they should extend the visa at the nearest immigration office.

Diplomatic/official visas are issued to diplomatic passport holders, official passport holders, or United Nations pass holders who intend to visit the Republic of the Congo for official business matters. These bearers of diplomatic passports typically include employees of the U.S. Department of State, Foreign Affairs Ministry of Canada and Mexico, the World Bank, the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, or diplomats from other embassies accredited to the United States and Mexico.

With diplomatic passports, a visa is issued for 12 months (one year) with multiple entries, if the application for a visa is accompanied by a diplomatic note. In addition, applications for a diplomatic visa are not subject to visa fees.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

• Two fully completed visa application forms
• Submit two copies of your visa application form. Print, fill in completely, and sign it. If you leave any parts of your visa application blank, this will delay your visa approval process. Please note that all documents listed are required. Failure to submit all necessary documents may result in your application being rejected.
• Two passport-size photos;
• Photos should be 51 * 51 mm in size, colored, with a white background, and with a full frontal image of the face. These photos should be taken within the last 6 months and reflect your current appearance.
• Valid passport
• Your passport must remain valid for the next 6 months until the date of your departure.
• Business letter
• Printed and notarized business letter (business letter must be notarized in the city council or the prefecture) on the company's letterhead indicating the nature of future activities, the name, and address of the referent, who can be contacted in the Republic of the Congo. The invitation letter must be addressed to the Embassy of the Republic of the Congo, Visa Section. A business visa will not be issued without an official business letter, and keep in mind that a business invitation must only be issued for 3 months from the date of its issuance.
• Copy of plane tickets or itinerary
• A copy of the ticket or reservation of the ticket indicating the dates of arrival and departure to the Republic of the Congo is mandatory.
• Prepaid envelope, if applicable
• USPS, UPS, or FedEx prepaid envelope with tracking number to return the passport.
