Without a visa, general period of stay in the country should not exceed 90 days in the span of 180 days. This concerns such cases, when you are travelling as a tourist, visiting family or friends, attending business meetings, cultural or sports events. 

To stay longer working or studying, going on business trips or because of other reasons, you will need to apply for a visa or a residence permit. 

Your passport should be:

• Issued less than 10 years before entering the country (check “Date of Issue”);

• Valid for at least 3 months after the planned day of departure (check “Validity”).

You need to also obtain an insurance policy for the entire stay in the country. A trip insurance may cost from 2 to 6 dollars per day depending on your age, travel destination, coverage and presence of previous illnesses. 

A travel insurance policy must meet the following requirements:

• Minimum coverage of 30000 Euros;

• Cover all expenses related to repatriation due to medical reasons, urgent health issues, hospitalization or death on the entire territory of the EU.

What is the validity period of a visa?

Visa is issued for one, two, or more entries with the purpose of transit, tourism, business, personal visit, or other trip. The validity depends on circumstances of the foreigner’s trip to Croatia and must not exceed 5 years.

All foreign citizens with Schengen documents, as well as those who are owners of a visa or residence permits of Bulgaria, Cyprus and Romania do not need a Croatian visa. 

Foreigners, who have:

• A one-time entry visa (C) that is valid on the territory of all countries of the Schengen Agreement, or one valid for two or more entries;

• Visas with limited territorial validity (LTV), issued to owners of a travel document that is not recognized by some, but not all countries of Schengen Area, and ones that are valid on the territory of the countries that do recognize such travel document;

• A long-stay visa (D) for stay of more than 90 days, issued by one of the member states of the Schengen Agreement;  

• A residence permit, issued by one of the member states of the Schengen Agreement;  

• Visas valid for two or more entries, and residence permits in Bulgaria;

• Visas valid for two or more entries, and residence permits in Cyprus;

• Visas valid for two or more entries, and residence permits in Romania;

The validity of these documents, that are recognized as equivalents of a Croatian visa, should cover the entire time o transit or stay.
