Birth in Finland
Everyone always has the right to receive the necessary emergency care in the Finnish health system, regardless of the country of origin and the reason for their stay in Finland.
People who are residents of a municipality in Finland (namely reside in Finland) are eligible for treatment in the state health system. you will be charged the same usage fee as other local residents. Your citizenship or country of origin doesn't matter. Your place of residence is registered with the digital data and population agency.
If you have temporarily arrived in Finland from a country other than the EU or EEA, Switzerland, the United Kingdom or Northern Ireland, you are only eligible for emergency care. After that, you may be charged for treatment. You are not eligible for reimbursement of expenses for private medical services. You will also not receive a refund for the cost of purchasing medicines and travel expenses related to treatment.
For treatment, an application form to the hospital is provided. If the course of treatment does not involve a long stay and its duration is clearly defined, citizens of countries with which the visa-free regime with Finland is concluded should not apply for a visa to enter. A citizen of a country that requires a visa to Finland must apply for a visa to enter at the nearest embassy.
If this treatment lasts more than 90 days, you need to apply for a residence permit.
